Job Summary:

The Krause Family Office Art Manager is responsible for the care, documentation, movement, installation, and general industry-standard management of the Krause Family art collection. They will also support acquisitions and the curation of the collection. This role ensures the integrity, preservation, and accessibility of the collection while supporting exhibitions, research, and educational programs. The Art Manager will report to the Head of the Family Office and also work closely with the principals of the family in executing these duties.

Principal Functions:

REGISTRAR - The role's primary duties will be that of a registrar:

Collection Management:Oversee the documentation, cataloging, and database management of the art collection.Ensure the proper storage, handling, and conservation of artworks.Develop and implement collection management policies and procedures.Conduct regular inventory checks and condition reports.Manage overall collection risk assessment and insuranceShipping and Storage:

Efficiently and safely coordinate the movement of collection artworks domestically and internationally among multiple properties, storage facilities, and external organizations.Carefully track international shipping guidelines and understand relevant duty implications.Effectively coordinate with appropriate external partners to ensure best practices are followed and international shipping considerations are met.Conservation and Preservation:

Develop and oversee conservation plans for the collection, including preventive conservation measures.Work with conservators to assess and address the conservation needs of individual artworks.Monitor environmental conditions in storage and display areas.Exhibition Support:

Collaborate with curators, exhibition designers, and other colleagues to plan and execute exhibitions.Coordinate the transportation, installation, and deinstallation of artworks.Ensure the safety and security of artworks during transit and display.Manage art loan program to family membersCURATORIAL SUPPORT - The role will also include duties that are supportive of the curation of the collection:

Research and Documentation:

Conduct research on the collection to support exhibitions, publications, and educational programs.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all artworks, including provenance, exhibition history, and conservation treatments.Facilitate access to the collection for researchers, scholars, and the public.Public Engagement and Education:

Assist in the development and delivery of educational programs and public tours related to the collection.Contribute to publications, catalogs, and online content about the collection.Represent the institution at professional conferences, workshops, and public events.Acquisition and Deaccession:

Manage the acquisition process for new artworks, including research, documentation, and integration into the collection.Oversee the deaccession process, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and ethical guidelines.Coordinate with curators and other stakeholders to evaluate potential acquisitions and deaccessions.Qualifications

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in art collection management, registration, or a related field.Thorough experience with international and domestic artwork shippingProven experience with collection management systems and database software.Experience in exhibition coordination and artwork handling.Experience in art history, museum studies, arts administration, or a related fieldSkills and Knowledge:

Strong knowledge of art handling, storage, and conservation practices.Excellent organizational and project management skills.Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and record-keeping.Ability to work collaboratively with curatorial, conservation, and education teams.Strong research, writing, and communication skills.Physical ability to handle artworks and work in various environmental conditions.Willingness to travel for acquisitions, exhibitions, and professional development.
