Job Summary
The Natural History Museum of Utah seeks a full-time Graphic Designer to assist its award winning marketing and communications team. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Museum’s Sr. Graphic Designer to help create a full suite of engaging and on-brand graphics for print and digital media for NHMU .
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Sr. Graphic Designer to design and create print, digital, and environmental graphics for all Museum departments.
Job responsibilities include:
Manage graphics projects from conception to completion, implementing feedback from the Sr. Graphic Designer
Work under tight deadlines with quick turnarounds
Maintain brand consistency Museum-wide
Collaborate with Museum colleagues and external stakeholders to inform design projects
Communicate and coordinate with off-site vendors; solicit bids, prepare work orders, and attend press checks.
Manage project details and deadlines.
While this position is within the Philanthropy & Communications Department, it serves all museum departments—excluding exhibit design—to develop digital and print design pieces.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Illustration, or a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) plus 3 years of related experience and a portfolio at the time of the interview required; demonstrated effective communication skills; the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences
2-4 Year Degree in Graphic Design or related field or 5+ years of graphic design experience.
Working knowledge and advanced experience in the Adobe Creative Suite is a must.
The ideal candidate shows design sensitivity as well as knowledge in design principles such as layout, typography, and image usage. Has an understanding of the design process from concept to production. Able to work within a tight brand guideline with a desire to help advance the brand and mission of the Natural History Museum of Utah.
Excellent problem solving skills and an ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and be able to work under direction of Sr. Graphic Designer.
Comfortable working in a fast paced and collaborative environment.
Experience in Asana and Sharepoint a plus.
