We are looking for someone with a strong communications background (strategic communications counseling, writing & media relations, etc.), issues management experience and relationships within the Native Hawaiian community and/or within Native Hawaiian organizations.Candidates selected to move forward in the process, must be willing to provide writing samples.The targeted pay range for this position is $100,000 – 116,000, depending on skills & experience.Job SummaryWith direction from Strategic Communication director, provides senior level consultation to CEO, executives and senior leaders to re-imagine communications strategies and methods that dramatically enhance KS’ image and reputation internally, with key stakeholders and with the local community and beyond. Ensures creation and delivery of compelling communication to reinforce and invigorate Hawaiian cultural and language vibrancy while strengthening engagement around Kamehameha Schools’ goal of nurturing ʻōiwi leaders.Essential ResponsibilitiesStrategic Communications Counseling (40%)Develops, manages and implements strategic communications plans and services for executive level assignments.Provides senior level consultation to executives and senior leaders to meet public relations goals and advance the Kamehameha Schools brand.Aligning Strategic Messages (35%)Develops strategic messaging and content for executive presentations, both oral and written, such as speeches, columns, and vehicles appropriate for disseminating engaging executive communications.Evaluates and measures strategic message penetration with diverse audiences via various internal and external communications channels.Relationship Management (25%)Maintains relationships, and provides proactive and strategic counsel and support to executive and senior leaders.Works in close coordination with Communications Group leadership, including vice president, directors and managers in developing and executing communications strategies and plans.Develops and fosters external relationships with media and key community members.Works collaboratively with Communications Group leaders and staff on integrated strategies, organization-wide campaigns, externally facing issues, and other strategic communications opportunities.Position RequirementsMinimum Qualifications

- An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or related field.Minimum of 8 years directly related work experience.Demonstrated ability to plan, execute and manage strategic communications plans and long-term projects that deliver strategic outcomes to targeted audiences. Demonstrated ability to hold sensitive information in confidence and operate with discretion.Strong customer service orientation, and models leadership behavior with colleagues and clients. Highly skilled at meeting budget requirements and delivery deadlines.Demonstrated ability to work proactively and creatively with diverse personalities and interests toward identifying and meeting a common and beneficial objective.Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to review and edit the work of others and collaborate with them to produce the best product/service in a timely, effective manner.Ability to transform complex and detailed information into straightforward and clear key messages that effectively communicate and accurately reflect KS’s brand, position and intent.Skilled at developing rapport and trust with internal and external senior level contacts to resolve issues and negotiate difficult situations for KS and/or mutual benefit.Skilled in the use of all appropriate communications tools and vehicles.Extensive knowledge of the Hawai'i news media; excellent knowledge of a broad spectrum of new and traditional communications technologies.Working knowledge of Hawaii’s varied communities and the state and local government structure in the areas of business development and/or education.Excellent listening skills and ability to understand the needs and drivers of others to enable opportunities to achieve shared outcomes.Preferred QualificationsHighly skilled in the Hawaiian language.Working knowledge of the media.Familiarity with Kamehameha Schools’ mission, vision and lines of business.Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian history, culture and worldview as it relates to the operations of Kamehameha Schools as a Native Hawaiian organization.Familiarity with the Hawaiian community and with issues of relevance to Kamehameha Schools as a Native Hawaiian organization.Physical RequirementsFrequently sit, perform desk based computer tasks and grasp light/fine manipulation.Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand, and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.Working ConditionsThis position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours may be required to meet goals and objectives.Disclaimer:
