Job Summary
Our founding technical writer will work with the Duplicati community to manage the docs.duplicati.com site and its content, processes, and tooling. Like any other company with a technical product, ensuring that the documentation for all of our products is clear, correct, comprehensive, and easy to use is of upmost importance.
But, at Duplicati it’s even more important. Most customers start out as an individual users who find the Open Source project, so we believe the technical writer role is one of the most important on the team - in charge of defining the first impression our future customers have of us. In this way, the role of Technical Writer is as much about product and marketing as it is about translating technical product features into amazing docs.
As a Technical Writer at Duplicati, you’ll collaborate with Engineers, who will typically write the first draft of docs for the new features they create. You’ll dive in on special projects, planning and authoring new content and helping craft new doc site features and processes. You’ll work with the team to help them contribute to the documentation. You’ll be at the leading edge of the revolution in backup & recovery we’re driving while contributing to one of the world’s largest open-source backup projects and engaging with our wider community.
What you’ll do
Continuously improve Duplicai documentation content in collaboration with engineers, founders, and others.
Work on Quarterly OKRs that focus on making our docs site a world-class experience, such as rewriting our existing documentation to align with concept, task, reference, and troubleshooting (CTRT) topic types.
Build the foundation for our Technical Writing team and then grow it.
Continuously improve team processes and style guides, as well as cross-functional efforts, such as the Duplicati Handbook.
Duplicati is an early stage company, which means you’ll often be wearing multiple hats. On top of your primary focus, there may likely be many other ways you’ll be critical to making Duplicati the leader in Backup and Recovery.

Demonstrated experience writing software documentation in a docs-as-code approach
Hands on experience with Frontend, Backend and Desktop applications
Experience with infrastructure, cloud services, and backup.
Experience with deployment process and management
Exemplary writing and editing skills
Remote development experience
Experience working in a highly collaborative environment
