Description

Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Manager of Marketing and Communications will support various PR-related tasks and communication projects for Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC). This position will work collaboratively with the leadership of the administrative team, Directors/Managers, promotional vendors, and media partners to promote marketing and health awareness activities, community-based events and managing participation in system-wide campaigns to enhance the organization's image and brand visibility. The Manager will implement the social media strategy, coordinating with department leadership to ensure its effectiveness and encouraging adoption of relevant social media techniques in the culture. The incumbent is responsible for supporting marketing/growth strategies and cultivating relationships with external stakeholders including community, business, education, government, and media partners. The incumbent will also be responsible for Physician Practice's customer service education.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements a communication strategy for the organization that builds and maintains a positive organizational image and supports the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Acts as a community liaison to assist with establishing and maintaining positive relationships with community organizations, community advocacy groups that target vulnerable populations, provider offices, faith-based organizations and performs other activities to enhance NMMC's presence in the community.
  • Acts as the organization's spokesperson and responds to members of the media in a timely manner; composes and distributes press releases as needed.
  • Advises and consults with CEO, Directors/Managers, and Medical Staff leadership to promote and develop initiatives related to employee and community relations programs.
  • Develops, maintains, and nurtures relationships with County agencies through routine meeting attendance, workshops, etc. and maintains knowledge of government regulations and emerging web technology to ensure regulatory compliance with all state, federal and NMMC's specific requirements.
  • Maintains active membership and participation in social, cultural, and civic organizations.
  • Onsite support and management for NMMC-sponsored events and forums.
  • Organizes speaking engagements and other formal presentations with the general public, media, community groups, employers, and employees. Identifies subject matter experts to support key message development and coordinates the development of audio and visual materials, if required. Ensures communications are tailored to the audience.
  • Conducts presentations, staff exhibits and performs other activities in an effort to maintain and establish positive relationships with NMMC stakeholders, community, and healthcare organizations.
  • Maintains working relationship with local and specialty media contacts germane to the health care industry, regional business, and other key outlets.
  • Strategizes and develops plans with contracted media firms to pitch, book and coordinate interviews for NMMC spokesperson(s), executives, and subject matter experts.
  • Maintains NMMC's social media platforms and manages all social properties including, but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube accounts based on the organization's objectives and support for marketing messaging.
  • Tracks all marketing requisitions, outreach activities, and monitors client relationship management database.
  • Implements strategic initiatives that will drive member growth, retention, and address NMMC priorities.
  • Research healthcare organizations to determine best practices and will share this information to management.
  • Sustains routine communication through correspondence (i.e., e-mail, memos, phone).
  • Develops and implements a strategic communications marketing plan.
  • Ownership for leveraging and highlighting Public Relations opportunities for NMMC - creating media advisories and press releases.
  • Seeks opportunities to promote NMMC in our current and new business development markets.
  • Helps manage NMMC's public image in collaboration with other department leaders and the external media relations company.
  • Provides insights and collaborates with writers, web designers, graphic artists, developers, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop written material, newsletters, press releases, talking points, scripts, web content copy and other relevant materials to promote and inform the public and press of NMMC campaigns and events.
  • Highlight departmental accomplishments and success stories for viable media opportunities.
  • Inventory management and system-wide distribution of all NMMC branded materials.
  • Performs other duties not listed herein but deemed in the best interest of NMMC.
Requirements

A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college in Business Administration, Communications, Management, Marketing, or an approved related discipline.

Public relations experience involving the press and communications media, employee communications, community affairs, educational affairs, public information, corporate and business affairs, governmental and legislative affairs; or equivalent is preferred.

  • Computer proficiency- must possess knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), use of internet and other social media avenues.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a motor vehicle with valid motor vehicle insurance. Must be able to travel to various meetings and facilities to perform the job.
  • Flexible shifts and must be able to work evenings or weekends, as needed.
