Job Description

We are currently searching for an Instrumentation and Controls Designer to join the E&IC group in our Calgary office.

You will have the opportunity to work in multi-discipline engineering projects, interfacing with mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineers. Our ideal candidate would have Instrumentation and Controls design experience but would also have an interest in electrical design and drafting of low voltage electrical systems.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Designing instrumentation and controls systems utilizing most major brands of PLC or DCS, HMI/SCADA equipment, including Schneider, Allen-Bradley, DeltaV, etc., with a focus on water and wastewater treatment processes including:
o P&ID development together with the process engineer and functional description / control narrative design.
o Instrumentation selection and specification.
o Network architecture design utilizing firewall, routers, and varying network protocols.
o PLC panel design including control power distribution, panel layouts and I/O card schematic diagrams.
o Instrumentation installation details.
o Planning and integration of packaged or vendor treatment systems.
• Completing site inspections, construction startup and commissioning coordination.
• Reviewing construction submittals.

Job Requirements

What you will bring:
• Registered, or eligible for registration with APEGA or ASET.
• 5-10 years of experience in instrumentation and control system design, preferably in water and wastewater treatment process.
• Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and ISA standards.
• Experience with hazardous area classifications.
• Knowledge of PLC & SCADA hardware and software specification.
• Network knowledge in routing and firewalls.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Self-starter with the ability work both in a team environment and independently.
• Strong communication, organizational and time management skills.
• Willingness to occasionally travel outside of Calgary.
