We are seeking an Assistant Director, Marketing & Communications to join our Firm. This position will be based in our Palo Alto office (hybrid). This position is responsible for planning and supporting the Palo Alto office's marketing and communication initiatives, with an emphasis on business development and practice development activities. Directs Palo Alto department staff and oversees marketing budget. Collaborates with department members globally on identifying and executing cross-office initiatives.
Engages in strategic marketing, communications, and business development planning with Palo Alto office leader, partners, and other attorneys, as well as with the Chief and Director of Global Marketing and Communications, creating and implementing office- and practice-specific plans and follow-up programs. Prepares new business pitches, presentations, and responses to requests for proposals (RFPs), monitors results, and coordinates follow-up with clients/potential clients. Conducts research for new business, competitive intelligence, and industry trends, as needed. Prepares Chambers and other awards/recognition submissions for Palo Alto attorneys and practices. Conceives and manages all aspects of PA client educational events (seminars, webcasts, and conferences), involving partners and practices globally. Conceives and oversees other client-related events, activities, and partnerships, such as those supporting diversity programming. Identifies speaking and thought leadership writing opportunities for partners and counsel. Manages the integration of new later and through-the-ranks partners by developing and executing tailored marketing plans. Develops innovative marketing materials about Palo Alto partners/capabilities, including for the firm website and intranet sections relating to the office. Edits and updates materials as needed. Produces a monthly office newsletter covering the latest developments and ensures that Palo Alto office-related news receives internal as well as external publicity. Builds relationships with local and regional press, pitches story ideas, and manages press meetings and interviews. Prepares information for and manages monthly marketing/business development meetings with Palo Alto partners and counsel. Supports local pro bono and affinity group activities in the Palo Alto office. Forecasts financial and budget requirements for office-wide marketing, communications, and business development activities. Ensures current knowledge of firm policies and practices, current knowledge of industry trends, and continued professional development for staff. Oversees the interviewing, selection, and training process. Monitors time, attendance, overtime, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with firm policies.
Qualifications
Broad and thorough knowledge of professional services marketing/business development. Excellent writing skills with the ability to synthesize data and accurately capture it in a narrative. Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems. Excellent analytical, organizational, and research skills, including the ability to evaluate existing systems and create new ones. Strong listening and consultative skills. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills. Demonstrates close attention to detail. Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects and shifting priorities. Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality as well as to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment. Ability to delegate effectively. Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team. Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree. Minimum of eight years marketing experience in a professional services environment. Experience communicating with the press preferred.

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant), and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable law.
Salary Details
$250,000 - $275,000
