Job Description Of Digital Marketing Manager

The Communications Department of Innovation Works develops and manages activities, content, and relationships that enhance the organization's brand in real-time and online and builds stakeholders' relationships for future partnerships and support. The Communications Department maintains relationships with the entire startup ecosystem: entrepreneurs, investors, universities, elected officials, fellow economic development organizations, and many others in the community who support the inclusive innovation ecosystem. The department is instrumental in establishing and promoting the Pittsburgh region's identity as a tech hub with momentum and one where all are included and welcome.

The Digital Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and reporting the online marketing strategies for Innovation Works. This role plans and executes marketing campaigns, develops a comprehensive strategy for the organization's websites, and coordinates a multi-faceted content plan with the Communications Coordinator to help implement across social media platforms.

The Digital Marketing Manager is part of a small team that develops the voice of IW, provides the right information to the right audience using the right platform at the right time, and creates a continuous family of online and social media content to engender trust in IW, partnership and a high-performing portfolio. As part of the Communications Department, the Digital Marketing Manager works closely with other departments to develop and market events, educational programming and relationship-building activities on behalf of the organization, its partners, and the startup community. The Manager works as part of the Communications team as well as independently and must be flexible, communicate effectively, and convey the organizational values of inclusion and innovation.

Set and Manage Digital Marketing Strategy:
  • Promote IW on digital platforms as the premier resource for local tech entrepreneurs and investors; use digital channels and real-time events to 1) cultivate and leverage relationships and 2) unify messages that articulate benefits/convey value to key audiences while also addressing a range of services and programs.
  • Develop and manage digital marketing strategies and campaigns whose content and approach humanize the organization, point followers and website users to the information they want and need, and create complementary experiences and/or specialized content to create a sense of community for key stakeholders.
  • Develop cohesive online and social media presence from content creation, to implementation schedules and project management.
  • Maximize content exposure with a multi-platform approach to ensure wide visibility on the organization's announcements and materials.
Websites
  • Manage organization's websites, optimize for SEO, track website traffic flow and adjust content as called for; provide internal reports regularly on analytics.
  • Plan, develop, edit, post, and/or manage the posting of content, images, graphics, videos, podcasts, audio, and any other content to online sites.
  • Work with an outside design firm for work that cannot be handled internally to set and outline the scope of work; solicit & evaluate bids; determine and convey visitors' personas; develop an organizational structure or site architecture; develop content; coordinate the project for intermittent review from management team/appropriate department.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of our websites. Generate reports, analyze data trends, and provide actionable insights to inform further enhancements to user experience.
Social Media and Email
  • Optimize content for social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc., and establish posting cadence to increase IW's content engagement and visibility.
  • Proactively and reactively execute social media posts to improve engagement and audience development; routinely report on metrics.
  • Manage email-based marketing campaigns with the Events Coordinator for educational and community development efforts.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. Generate reports, analyze data trends, and provide actionable insights to inform future marketing strategies.
Advocate for Startups, Organization
  • Attend networking events to grow the IW community; create, promote, and host events to reinforce partnership(s) and develop a sense of community.
  • Identify new digital marketing trends and platforms to ensure that the brand is in front of industry developments and conveys 'innovation.'
  • Provide direct assistance for portfolio companies to help them establish good communications practices and amplify their news on IW channels.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes impacting key startup sectors. Conduct market research and analysis to identify new opportunities for growth and differentiation.
Digital & Community Engagement Manager Skills And Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in online and social media marketing from inception implementation.
  • Five or more years of experience leading digital marketing efforts, examples of successful campaigns and their metrics.
  • Well-versed in the use of social media and project management tools such as ClickUp, Buffer, and Salesforce.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Comfort and experience addressing multiple audiences and adept at posting/responding on various platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other platforms).
  • Plans and uses online content for websites and social media platforms consistent messaging tailored by platform and audience to introduce users and followers to the organization, educate, and build community.
  • Understands and uses website SEO and analytics plus social media measurement to tweak messaging and follow best practices.
  • Experience with email marketing and CMS systems to distribute.
  • Able to work with colleagues at all levels to develop marketing goals and evaluate results.
  • Good at problem-solving and communication.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, positive, and creative attitude to address multiple projects simultaneously with minimal budget and lead time.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite (particularly PowerPoint and Excel); Google G-Suite/Workspace for collaboration and Google analytics,
  • Slack and other collaboration and communication tools.
  • Experience with basic HTML, Wordpress other content management systems is preferred.
  • Experience using contact databases such as Salesforce and/or self-publishing software such as Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar applications is desirable.
