Description

This position functions as the marketing and communication manager for Samford University's College of Health Sciences, specifically supporting the Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing the School of Health Professions. Under the direction of the director of university marketing and the dean of the school, the marketing and communication coordinator will work as a representative of the Division of Marketing and Communication to develop integrated marketing strategies, along with supporting tactics, to advance the reputation, recruitment and fundraising goals of the schools.

Job Duties

This position will contribute to the overall success of Samford University's schools of Nursing and Health Professions by managing marketing and communication activities. Duties include the following:

  • Ensure that key academic programs, special projects, and events within the schools are appropriately supported through marketing and communication tactics. In conjunction with the deans and department chairs, regularly review pieces to ensure they are accurate, timely, and brand-consistent. Initiate creative process to have new materials created as needed.
  • Collaborate with school leaders and university advancement to develop messaging and strategy for fundraising appeals and stewardship materials.
  • Retain a strong understanding of programs and practices related to the schools and their integrated marketing and communication needs. Regularly communicate these to the greater university and external audiences as appropriate.
  • Support the university's strategic external communication plan by writing feature stories and news releases highlighting significant events, accomplishments, and priorities within the schools. Collaborate with the director of university communication to review, edit, and distribute releases.
  • Identify and foster opportunities to leverage faculty expertise in the media.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management and school-based recruiters to support recruitment marketing and communication efforts as needed, including Slate email campaign messaging and visual content.
  • Work with Division of Marketing and Communication colleagues to organize strategic marketing efforts through digital advertising, social media, broadcast and video, and graphic design.
  • Manage unit-specific merchandising needs in consultation with the Division of Marketing and Communication and the university licensing process.
  • Engage in the schools' accreditation reviews by providing marketing materials as supporting collateral.
  • Attend school and university functions as appropriate to network with alumni and patrons.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Marketing, communication or related degree preferred
  • At least ten years of demonstrated work experience in marketing, brand management or a communication-related field
  • Ability to work independently, with a sense of urgency, and exercise prudent judgment in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional skills and demonstrated work experience in professional writing and editing for a variety of media, including news, feature, digital and social
  • Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously and to work with a wide variety of constituents
  • Strong project and time management and organizational skills
  • Technical competence in the workings of website and content management systems, social media monitoring systems, digital (web and social) analytics
