PERFORMING ARTS PHILOSOPHYThe Performing Arts Department seeks to impart to its students through its Kindergarten through grade 12 curriculum an enduring understanding of specific knowledge, principles, and habits of mind such as the ability to:? Appreciate art as a creative and critical process.From our introductory classes in the Lower School to our award-winning ensembles in the Upper School, the breadth and depth of opportunities in the Performing Arts for students at St. Margaret's is unparalleled. These take place in the state-of-the-art Darcy Rice Center for Performing Arts throughout the school year. The Arts programming is high-quality, technologically advanced, and comparable to professional and college-level theater.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Costume Designer is responsible for conceptualizing the design of 3 shows alongside the director. In this role, the Designer pulls, sizes, and fits costumes, purchases new pieces, creates costumes, and coordinates hair and makeup as needed. The Designer will also coordinate volunteers, including students and parents, who may help in costume creation and wardrobe assistance. The Designer will work in both the costume studio and utilize the school's inventory in the nearby costume storage facility. These two locations house 25,000+ costume pieces.

The Designer can make their own schedule. During productions, schedules will require the Designer to work after school and Saturdays. The Designer must be present to work with students backstage during the run of the show.

REQUIREMENTSExperience in the performing arts in these technical capacities is essential including strong organizational and communication skills.

COMPENSATION$2,500 Play / $4,000 MusicalThis position is a part-time, independent contractor role and is paid per show.
