The Winslow Laboratory in the Department of Genetics at Stanford University is seeking a highly motivated Grant Writer (Administrative Associate 4) to work under the general direction of the principal investigator to develop implement, and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of externally funded research within the lab. The Grant Writer will be responsible for the program strategy development/management and will work with faculty and other researchers to develop, draft, edit, and submit grant proposals to government and non-government funding agencies. The Grant Writer will serve as a resource expert to support the growth and development of our lab research program. We are seeking a candidate with the ability to multi-task and be extremely detail oriented, self-motivated and a team player. The candidate must also have excellent communication skills that allow high level interactions with a diverse academic and medical community.

This role will provide complex administrative or operational support with minimal supervision. May be responsible for overseeing other administrative staff or subordinates.

Duties include:

Develop and manage research programs by conducting research activities, including outreach to varied stakeholders within the program, assigning resources and making program improvement recommendations that impact policies and programs.

Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research funding.

Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the lab.

Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.

Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Proven ability to write and assemble successful funding applications, including to federal agencies, private foundations, and industry with careful attention to detail

Superior scientific communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey scientific content with expertise for expert and lay audiences

Experience writing and editing research articles for scientific journals

Experience with Adobe Illustrator, GraphPad, and Endnote

Demonstrated interpersonal skills to interact with senior-level administrators, faculty, and staff across the university

Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to organize, meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks with competing needs

Ability to work well independently as well as contribute to team efforts in a fast-paced environment, and commitment to an inclusive workspace

Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment

Advanced degree in biology or related scientific field preferred. Experience in a university setting or biological research, including standard molecular biology techniques, mammalian cell culture and in vivo mouse models is preferable but not required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

High school diploma and six years of administrative experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications.

Proven success in following through and completing projects.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.

Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.

The expected pay range for this position is $38.46 to $48.56 per hour.
