Want to apply Read all the information about this position below, then hit the apply button.Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) sector is seeking a human factors engineer/user researcher to support the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Fire Control system engineering activities in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The selected candidate will become part of the Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Program in support of the GMD Weapon System (GWS) for the Missile Defense Agency. GMD employs integrated communications networks, fire control systems, globally deployed sensors and Ground-Based Interceptors that are capable of detecting, tracking, and destroying ballistic missile threats. The open position is in support of the design and development of the GMD Fire Control (GFC) product within the GWS program.

Key Responsibilities:

Participate fully in the product development process by embedding with Agile product teams, the ideal candidate will be able to synthesize user feedback and usability testing data into product roadmap tasks and deliverables.

Collaborate with military and non-military users, systems engineers, software developers, Missile Defense Agency (MDA) customer representatives, and UI/UX designers to ensure evolving designs are user-centered and ultimately compatible with expected GFC military end-users.

Generate and iteratively refine journey maps, user flows, task analyses, and other research artifacts to capture intended user-system interactions at both the macro and micro levels. These artifacts will be used to generate targeted UX/UI designs and inform the UI product team Agile backlog.

Effectively communicate and coordinate journey maps and user flows with team members across numerous scrum teams to drive human-centered design and development activities.

Elicit and catalog feedback from customer and user community on evolving design concepts and completed software using both formative and summative approaches to help guide design and development.

Conduct usability testing of design concept prototypes and working software and synthesize and report results. This data will drive design iteration and product backlog.

Assess and translate evolving user needs to facilitate engineering requirement and design concept definitions.

Support assessment in accordance with MIL-STD-1472G/H design guidelines.

Basic Qualifications:

Sr Principal Human Factors Engineer:

Bachelor's degree in P sychology, Human Factors, User Interface (UI) / User Experience (UX) design, Human Computer Interaction, or other related field and 9 years of related experience, a Master's degree and 7 years of related experience, or a PhD and 4 years of related experience

Principal Human Factors Engineer:

Bachelor's degree in P sychology, Human Factors, User Interface (UI) / User Experience (UX) design, Human Computer Interaction, or other related field and 5 years of related experience, a Master's degree and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 1 year of experience.

Ability to obtain an Interim DoD Secret security clearance prior to start date and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Experience developing and administering qualitative and quantitative user assessments methods.

Demonstrated experience collecting and analyzing end-user feedback/data (both formative and summative) to drive a product backlog.

Demonstrated experience developing journey maps, user flows, task analysis, or equivalent.

Possess strong verbal/written communications skills to work effectively in and across multiple technical teams with both collocated and geographically dispersed team members.

Strong problem-solving skills, exceptional curiosity, and a drive to constantly learn.

Self-motivated and ability to work in a dynamic team environment while successfully juggling multiple competing priorities with limited direction.

Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university

Active DOD Secret Security clearance.

Prior experience on a product team driving product backlog in coordinating with multiple scrum team product owners.

Prior working experience on an MDA program, higher preference for prior GMD experience.

Demonstrated experience working with diverse teams in an Agile environment.

DoD Experience with user-centered UI/UX design and/or user research for a complex system operated within a system of systems environment.

Prior experience supporting the development and assessment of a a system against MIL-STD-1472 guidelines.

An innate desire and curiosity to learn more about the components of GMD, the end-users, and how they operate in a system of systems environment.

Salary Range:

$97,500 - $146,300

Salary Range 2:

$121,000 - $181,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
