We believe students and teachers best succeed when surrounded by an ecosystem of supports, including our central headquarters team that supports KIPP DC’s 20 schools, 7,300 students, and 1,300 teachers, leaders, and staff members dedicated to this mission.POSITION OVERVIEW:In collaboration with members of the Development Operations team (Senior Director of DevOps, Database Administrator, Director of Data Engineering) and other stakeholders, the Junior Web Developer will build and support custom online applications that empower KIPP DC staff and students. The Junior Web Developer will meet with stakeholders at KIPP DC to understand problems that aren’t met by enterprise data systems, and will extend and build tools that enable faster problem-solving, automation, or data analysis by KIPP DC team members.The Junior Web Developer will build full-stack tools that will be used within KIPP DC, and support deploying and troubleshooting in an agile environment.The Junior Web Developer is an exempt position and will report to the Senior Director of DevOps, and work closely with a team of diverse, committed, and motivated Information team members.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Application Development/Support (60%)Create browser-based applications to support special projects at KIPP DC, supporting teams such as operations, talent, and schoolsDevelop intuitive interfaces to support effective data analysis and accurate data entryCreate secure back-ends to retrieve and store relevant informationBuild and use integrations with existing KIPP DC and external toolsCreate and run automated testsUtilize git/Github version controlApplication Support (40%)Work directly with users to determine new and improved featuresSupport users encountering bugs or facing issues in applicationsMaintain backlog of upcoming updates and bugfixesDeploy changes to production code using Heroku, Netlify and Github actions.Create and maintain documentation for applications, and help guides for end users.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree requiredPrevious web development, programming, or system administration experience (2- 4 years of experience) requiredPrevious experience working in nonprofits preferredDemonstrated expertise in Javascript/Typescript is required, and experience working with SQL and API-driven integrations is strongly preferredProven ability to learn and self-teach new technical skillsExperience with one or more of the following libraries/frameworks:

React/Angular/VueJSExpress/NestJS (or similar back-end framework in other languages)ORM such Sequelize/Knex/Prisma

Familiarity with the K-12 education fieldUnquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s missionCompensation and BenefitsKIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:The anticipated starting salary for this position is $71,615-$85,256. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. This position will generally work independently and not regularly interface with students, families, or school teams. This position will primarily work from our headquarters office to maintain a connection to their colleagues and foster a sense of cross-functional collaboration. Because of the nature of this position’s work, this will allow for hybrid work.
