Position Summary

As a User Experience Research Manager, you lead a team that defines and drives the future of the partner experience at Starbucks. You identify and support product insights, develop shared empathy for the partner experience through research and testing, and lead your team to raise the bar in everything we do across various Starbucks digital partner products and platforms. You’re a big-picture thinker with very practical skills to move the day-to-day towards big goals.

Managing user experience research extends your role often beyond research itself into systems thinking, product strategy, design, and data science. Your ability to collaborate with leaders of other Research, Design, Engineering, Product Management, and stakeholder teams is crucial. You’re a fierce advocate for the Starbucks Partner. You deeply understand the human centered design process and many research methods and how they bring empathy, knowledge and data into decision making. You are astute at identifying and developing talent that both meets our functional expectations and fits our company culture at Starbucks. You deeply understand how to organize teams to address complex business and user needs for the purposes of building insights, strategy, and world-class products.

Digital Products at Starbucks

Every week, hundreds of thousands of partners go to work at local Starbucks cafés. Our digital products are transforming store partner’s experiences in big ways. The quality of this experience in a digital context depends on great UX design and research and the opportunity to innovate at a truly global scale is huge.

Responsibilities

Lead and direct a team of researchers focused on partner-facing products and be able to communicate rationale, background for your decisions.Provide productive critique and feedback to UX researchers, raising the bar for what your team delivers.Hire and coach a team of UX researchers, supporting their growth and development.Contribute to prioritization of work and projects at the organizational leadership level.Be a strategic collaborator within the org, and external stakeholder groups.Build relationships with leaders outside of Digital Partner Products, educating them and guiding them along in the process of shipping great experiences for our Partners.Be an extension of our Product Organization’s culture and principles to the broader enterprise.Effectively advocate for partners in a fast-paced, corporate climate, imparting day-to-day design leadership that fosters a shared understanding of the user-centric intersection between design, content, business, and engineering.

Qualifications

8 years of experience as a UX Researcher.2 years of experience managing or leading UX Research teams.Effectiveness in working across organizational boundaries to define, manage, and prioritize work.Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex interaction concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.Collaborative and innovative with a great sense of humor.
