Established by Congress in 1974, the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is the country’s single largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans. LSC currently funds 131 independent nonprofit legal aid organizations with more than 800 offices throughout the nation. LSC’s mission is to promote equal access to justice and provide grants for high-quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans. This position is based in Washington, DC, and will require working from an office in DC in accordance with LSC’s hybrid work model. The successful candidate must live in the DC metropolitan area.BASIC FUNCTION:

The Instructional Designer and Trainer (IDT) is responsible for working closely with the Director of the Office of Training and Technical Assistance and the Training and Technical Assistance team (TTA team) to implement the Office’s strategy and plan for effectively delivering training and technical assistance to the Legal Services Corporation’s grantees. The role is responsible for providing technical expertise in creating and facilitating engaging and impactful learning experiences for adult learners, which may include but is not limited to designing e-learning courses, infographics, video modules, virtual learning tools, and animations, as well as maintaining, curating, and updating existing resources as needed and delivering training sessions. The IDT reports to the Director of the Office of Training and Technical Assistance or their designee and works closely with the other TTA team members. This position is included in a collective bargaining unit represented by the International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers, Local 135.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists with developing and implementing LSC’s organizational training strategy and work plan with a focus on

adult education

and

Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) .Works with key stakeholders to identify the training needs of adult learners and develops instructional end goals and key performance measures tailored to adult education.Conducts research to identify subject matter experts.Conducts instructional research and analysis on adult learners and learning contexts to ensure relevance and effectiveness of training programs.Collaborates with the other TTA team members to develop training programs and materials specifically for adult professionals, including creating curriculum plans using instructional design principles, and training outlines that identify how to develop the skills consistent with identified core competencies and other LSC grantees’ needs.Makes recommendations for the best format and delivery platform to achieve learning objectives, with a preference for Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) platforms when appropriate.Designs and creates exercises and activities that enhance the learning and knowledge transfer process and develops necessary supporting materials and media (e.g., audio, video, simulations, role plays, games, etc.).Authors e-learning content and modules for LSC grantees and internal capacity building using applications like Adobe Captivate, Articulate 360, or a similar e-learning application based on project and curriculum plans. This includes developing storyboards and scripts and uploading and configuring learning content in LSC’s learning management system.Delivers training for adult professionals live and in person and through asynchronous methods, including distance learning and web-based tools, emphasizing Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT).Provides direction to the OTTA Coordinator for registration and logistics of VILT sessions.Updates and maintains electronic training materials in collaboration with the TTA team, which may include integrating and enhancing existing instructional materials for republishing or creating updated presentations and courses.Maintains project documentation throughout the development of courses and other content, ensuring alignment with adult education principles and VILT best practices.Under the guidance and direction of the Director, works collaboratively with the TTA team to design, implement (as needed), and maintain LSC’s Learning Management System(s) and platform.Uses the Office’s chosen project development methodology to implement all project development.Assists with conducting assessments/evaluations of content developed and web-based training platforms to ensure effectiveness for adult learners and VILT.Assists with creating and delivering course evaluation questionnaires following training courses and analyzes results for periodic reporting, focusing on feedback from adult learners and VILT effectiveness.Performs other related duties as assigned.General:Possess strong organizational and project management skills.Demonstrate initiative and be an effective and creative problem-solver.Be a skilled communicator, possessing strong oral and written communication skills, including strength in editing content.Be able to interact and communicate effectively with staff and grantees at all levels, as well as vendors and consultants.Possess skill and comfort working in a multi-tasking environment and managing time effectively.Be able to successfully work collaboratively with numerous individuals across the organization and externally.Have unimpeachable integrity and personal ethics.Possess the skills and abilities to work successfully independently and in teams.Be skilled at gathering input and using it to inform work product.Have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.Manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.Have excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail.Possess excellent public speaking skills, particularly in the context of adult education and Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT).Demonstrated ability to learn and master information quickly, especially related to adult learning and VILT technologies.The ability to identify and understand trends that affect LSC, its grantees, and their clients, and possess a commitment to staying current with best practices for instructional design and delivery platforms/systems, particularly for adult learners and VILT.Technical/Specialized:Earned a bachelor’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, instructional design, education technology, or a closely related field in training development and:

For Instructional Designer and Trainer II, a minimum of three years of experience in adult learning or any combination of education and relevant adult learning experience totaling at least seven years.For Instructional Designer and Trainer III, a minimum of six years of experience in adult learning or any combination of education and relevant adult learning experience totaling at least ten years.

Knowledge of and experience with leading practices in

adult education , instructional design, asynchronous learning, and curriculum design.Demonstrated strong knowledge of

Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT)

and/or

Instructor-Led Training (ILT) .Demonstrated strong knowledge of curriculum, lesson plan, storyboarding, and learning plan development for adult education.Experience with multiple Learning Management Systems (e.g., Connect, Moodle, or related products to produce live virtual training), including developing online training courses using Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate with experience with Adobe Captivate 7 or newer, or a similar software application.An understanding of how to produce Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) compliant e-learning content.Demonstrated experience in instructional design and organizing program content for adult learners.Experience creating recorded content for live or asynchronous learning experiences, including familiarity with audio and visual editing.Experience delivering training (in person or via an asynchronous platform) and providing technical support before and during training sessions, with an emphasis on adult education and VILT.Demonstrated experience with learning transfer and content evaluation.Demonstrated customer service skills and orientation and the ability to work with diverse staff and external stakeholders with different ability levels and learning styles.Strong skills and experience with using advanced technology in training or teaching, including e-learning technology and technology that enhances in-person training delivery.Demonstrated project management experience with Agile or similar project management model.Strong working knowledge and experience with content development and productivity tools including, but not limited to, Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe eLearning Suite, Canva, Zoom, Vyond, Camtasia, and MS Office Suite applications.Familiarity with the ADDIE model, ADDIE/Agile, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Kirkpatrick, SCORM, and Section 508 and WCAG standards.Advanced experience with Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).SALARY AND BENEFITS:Instructional Designer and Trainer II: $81,012-$84,285Instructional Designer and TrainerIII: $93,108-$96,870LSC has a competitive market-based salary structure that establishes a specific salary range for this position. The salary range has eight pay levels separated by seven steps. A new employee will be hired at Step 1 and must wait two years to advance to each of the next three steps (Steps 2 through 4), and one year to advance to each of the next four steps (Steps 5 through 8).Excellent benefits package.APPLICATION PROCESS:
