Job Description

The Grant Writer for Arizona PBS will serve as the primary person responsible for developing a system to research grant opportunities, develop proposals, manage an ongoing pipeline, and prepare revenue forecasts in accordance PBS and other non-profit best practices as well as complying with funder standards and requirements. The Grant Writer works closely with Arizona PBS development and broader executive teams to identify and prioritize grant and proposal opportunities in support of strategic initiatives, objectives and goals.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.Background Check Statement

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business, Journalism, Communications or closely related field appropriate to area of assignment AND five (5) years of experience in technical or grant writing, editing or publishing; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Essential Duties

Researches grant opportunities from a variety of government agencies and public and private foundations and organizations; disseminates information on funding opportunities to supervisor and other Arizona PBS executives for periodic review.Establishes and maintains close liaisons with community organizations, state and federal government agencies, professional organizations involved with development of projects and proposals.Consolidates, writes, edits, or rewrites proposals; assists in development of proposals with emphasis on sponsor/grant identification and budget preparation; interprets sponsoring agency guidelines to ensure compliance with both CPB and funder guidelines and requirements.Prepares regular progress reports, including analysis of shortfalls with steps to achieve budgeted revenue targets.Works with Development and Underwriting staffs to find grant opportunities.Works closely with AZPBS leadership to identify and prioritize resource development opportunities. While the Grant Writer holds responsibility for composing and completing grant proposals, the writer will coordinates with other internal resources to ensure timelines and standards are met.Tracks grant applications, awards and follows up with funding agency as appropriate; prepares a variety of periodic status reports.Researches, reviews and interprets requests for proposals and funding guidelines from government agencies and foundations to determine if appropriate and optimal response format.Monitors grant compliance including funding levels, expenditures and operational activities.Customizes layouts to reflect both guidelines and mission of funding agency to which the grant proposal will be submitted.Works with internal AZPBS resources to create and produce graphics and charts that support the grant narrative.Supplies all necessary information to AZPBS finance department to enable contract negotiations as needed.
