Read the overview of this opportunity to understand what skills, including and relevant soft skills and software package proficiencies, are required.This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center (CVC).The CVC is the public’s front door to the U.S. Capitol, offering tours and education programs as well as supporting congressional events. Our goal is to inform, involve and inspire every visitor to the U.S. Capitol. The CVC has 200 employees across five divisions: Visitor Services, Exhibits and Education, Retail, Communications and Marketing, and Planning, Operations and Evaluation.DutiesIf you are selected as the Director, Marketing and Communications, you will:Develop and implement a communications strategy to present the CVC’s mission, vision and programs. Lead CVC-wide internal and external communications efforts with a multifaceted approach incorporating a variety of communication techniques tailored to specific audiences. Lead the effort to establish and maintain a strong and consistent brand identity for the CVC. Conceptualizes and executes the public image of the CVC as the face of the legislative branch of government and a symbol of democracy through design and branding in print and digital media. Develop, shape and lead decisions about print and digital content consistent with the CVC’s mission and to further the CVC’s position as a premier destination in Washington, D.C.Administer and manage the publication and dissemination of information about the CVC to Congress, Congressional staff, the public and the media; Develop strategies to generate awareness of the CVC activities and to promote those activities; provide direct support to the Architect of the Capitol and to the Chief Executive Officer by providing testimonial reports for the House and the Senate Committees; possess a high level of diplomacy and professionalism; represent the CVC and the Architect of the Capitol at presentations at various locations to professional groups and high levels of government and dignitaries.Apply a broad and comprehensive knowledge of techniques involved in managing marketing and communications functions to achieve effective relationships between the CVC and the AOC, Members of Congress and staff, oversight committees, the media and other outside organizations in striving to promote and advance CVC programs and operations. Advise on potential media and public reaction to proposed policies and programs.Responsible for supervising the preparation of hearing testimony, print media and other communications for professional organizations, the public and press. Serves as the senior media liaison for the CVC during interviews with the news and/or information media. Organizes and coordinates print and broadcast media interviews with key officials and oversees all arrangements with the news media involving CVC activities.Recommend, develop and implement internal communications to foster greater cohesion among CVC staff.Develop new insights into situations; question conventional approaches; encourage new ideas and innovations; design and implement new or cutting-edge programs/processes. Make clear and convincing oral presentations to individuals and groups, explaining and advocating facts and ideas which actively promote and advance CVC outreach.Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with organizations involved in the special events and partnerships. Respond to external and internal questions regarding the special events and partnerships under consideration or underway. Work in groups and teams, conducts briefings and other meetings, clarifies information, facilitates an open exchange of ideas and gains cooperation from others to obtain information and accomplish communications goals.Oversee special events and manage Congressional liaisons and communications personnel. Perform administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates.Observeand conduct work performance critiques andprovide for employee skills enrichment. Manage the organizational unit’s budget and workload.
