Scope:

The Head of Technical Services and Collection Development oversees and is responsible for all activities related to the acquisition, processing, cataloging, maintenance, and eventual deaccessioning of a wide variety of formats and items for the holdings of the library, including branch campus libraries as required. This position additionally collaborates with the Head of Archives for crossover of services and resources among library and archives collections at all SRSU campses. This position utilizes the integrated library system ( ILS ) SirsiDynix Symphony to create and maintain records, troubleshoot, and generally make resources available and usable to student, faculty, staff, and community at all SRSU campuses. Responsible for ordering, receiving, binding, and cataloging of physical books, eBooks, serials/periodicals, standing orders, and special items. Responsible for updating and maintaining related policies relevant to industry standards and best practices. Works with Director and Operations Supervisor to ensure smooth procurement processes. Supervises Library Assistant in Cataloging and part-time Library Assistant in Serials. Acts as public-facing librarian available for research consultations and instruction services. Voting member of Faculty Assembly.

Duties(60%) Coordinates all activities and services related to Technical Services for all library locationsManages physical and digital content acquisitions (collection development) for the library’s collections across all formats. May contribute to collection development for the Archives of the Big BendOversees cataloging and classification, specifically original catalogingOversees serials/periodicals ordering and maintenanceOversees purchasing and data tracking for collection-related purchasesKeeps current of trends related to technical services librarianshipParticipates in strategic planning and workflow management of technical services department(20%) Acts as public-facing librarian available for research consultations and instruction services, participating in Librarian Office Hours/Reference Desk coverage and chat service for off-campus students and faculty, including nights and weekends(10%) Maintains accurate statistics, submits required reports and budget requests(5%) Serves on University Committees, Faculty Assembly Councils, Faculty Senate Councils, and other working groups in areas relevant to the position(5%) Performs other reasonable duties as required by the supervisorResponsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.

Office conditions. Service oriented environment in direct and continual contact with the public; flexible schedule encompassing early morning to late night and weekend hours as demanded to meet supervisory requirements. Exempt from overtime provisions. Position is security sensitive.Special:

Some travel to alternate campuses required. May be required to work evenings/weekends for departmental events.

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.

stulife@sulross.eduAbout SRSUSul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation of 4,480 feet, and on the periphery of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine enjoys mild winters and cool summers. Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Big Bend National Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are all within one to three hours driving distance from Alpine.

The SRSU campuses in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde comprise Rio Grande College. RGC offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s degree programs and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to RGC for their students. All RGC students hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or they have completed 42 semester credit hours of transferrable work.
