CherryRoad Media is seeking a talented, dynamic leader in the newsroomPosition Title:    Managing Editor - The Ottawa HeraldLocation:           Ottawa, Kansas 

NATURE OF WORK

First in charge in the newsroom. The Editor oversees the print and online products of the publication, and supervises editorial staff to ensure all editorial requirements/standards are met.

EXAMPLES OF THE WORK

Adhere to journalistic ethics, and assure reporting is balanced and objectiveConfers with CherryRoad Media policiesCoordinates functions and operations between departments, develops editorial and operating procedures, and negotiates decisionsSupervise daily tasks, including planning, story assignments, editing, layout, page makeup and assuring deadlines are metEnsures policies and operating procedures comply with federal and state lawPrepare and supervise newsroom budgetCommunicate with readers, answering questions and providing informationOversee  and contribute to social media sites and websiteWork with editorial staff to coordinate and assure full coverage of news, human interest and sports in the marketAssure the newspaper is meeting its responsibility as a public watchdog through hyper local, in-depth reportingWrite daily editorials, a weekly column and stories as neededProduce photography and videos as neededWork closely with upper management team, including directors of advertising, circulation production and the business officeRepresent the newspaper at public functionsRepresent the newspaper by serving on select public boards and organizationsEstablish the philosophy of local news, features and sports coverageOversee the processing of expense forms, purchase orders and other paperworkOther Duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Must have good communications skills for the ability to effectively deal with internal and external customersExcellent keyboarding and computer knowledgeExcellent knowledge of grammar, spelling and AP styleAbility to react quickly to new developments and exercise judgement.Ability to juggle multiple stories and deadlines

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Degree in Journalism or related field of study preferred Minimum of 3 years experience in newsroom preferred Other combinations of education and experience may be considered
