The Director, Power Marketing and Origination

will be responsible for managing and reporting on CIM Group portfolio company’s positions in electricity markets. The successful candidate should have a deep understanding of electricity markets and regulations and the ability to develop relationships with PPA off-takers. A strong analytics background and the ability to work with data is necessary. Serve as Subject Matter Expert for Investments (Structured Finance), Development, and other teams as needed.

Primary responsibility is to optimize the revenue from each asset through securing PPAs and managing the trading strategy for any uncontracted portion. This shall include but not be limited to:Revenues – Oversee the contracting program and energy bidding strategy for the assets and ensure that revenue goals are met or exceeded as outlined in the operating budget. Lead the negotiation of Power Purchase Agreements and Confirms.Bidding Strategies – Evaluate and modify CAISO day-ahead, real-time, and ancillary services market bidding strategies to maximize merchant revenues for operating assets and mitigate any associated risks, manage DA/RT trading and other strategies as required.Contract Negotiation – Structure, negotiate and close long term structured power purchase agreements and other revenue contractsMarketing – Maintain relationships with key power off-takers, identify RFT and RFP opportunities, identify new opportunities for energy project development across the United States. Project Manage responses to RFPSModeling – Liase with Investments (Structured Finance) team on relevant activities and full integration of offtake structures into the financial model.Research – Maintain ownership of power price forecasts and maintain relationship with key consultants. Awareness of utility IRPs, state RPS mandates, and ot her regulatory and commercial power trends. Assemble and present research products and potential opportunities to internal stakeholders.Coordination – Serve as subject matter expert and work with Development, Investments, and other departments to understand power prices and successfully commercialize projects.Performance Analytics Work with Asset Operations and Performance Engineering to analyze the financial impact of energy production in various scenarios. Assist in the maintenance of historical power price data.Communication – Demonstrate excellent communication skills in both verbal and written interactions with all internal and external parties. Conduct necessary reporting of operational activities with relevant counterparties, partners, contractors, consultants, service providers, suppliers, and governmental agencies.Risk Assessment – Support Asset Operations to ensure compliance with requirements for various project agreements including Power Purchase Agreements and REC Agreements. Understand the business development and market evolution and recommend appropriate risk approach to key stakeholders for approval. Calculate and execute trades to ensure compliance with risk policy.Financial Deliverables Work with the investment, accounting, and legal teams in preparing and submitting all required deliverables.Ability to develop and manage 12X24 production schedule.Maintain industry relationships with key suppliers, offtakers, energy consultants, regulatory agencies and other stakeholdersEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: (including certification, licenses, etc.)

Bachelor’s Degree5+ years’ experience in in origination, power marketing, renewable energy consulting, or a related field.Experience in CAISO strongly preferred.Prior experience operating merchant energy projects preferred.Prior experience managing production and dispatch strategy for Solar + Storage projects preferred.Prior experience / knowledge with Day Ahead scheduling requiredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Expert knowledge on structuring and negotiating offtake deals, including but not limited to financial hedges, swaps, and other evolving instrumentsStrong skills in identifying, negotiating, and executing on commercial transactionsPreference for experience working with energy retailers in deregulated marketsStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholdersStrong understanding of energy markets, particularly ISO-NE, NYISO, and PJMExperience working with and securing offtake from public and governmental agenciesSolid financial modeling skills and the ability to lead creative structuring strategy effortsStrong problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, creativity, and leadership skillsSuperior verbal and written communication skills and high level of attention to detailWhat CIM offersCIM offers an enriched benefits program as well as a wide range of resources for eligible employees to thrive both inside and outside of work. The start of the salary range is typically associated with the minimum experience required. At CIM, base pay is one part of the total compensation package. This role is eligible for bonus pay in addition to base salary.
