The Gerontological Society of America seeks anexecutive leader in support of the GSA vision, mission, and strategic objectives. Oversees all functions related to strategic alliances, communications, and GSA positioning in the broader ecosystem. Charged with developing new relationships and expanding existing relationships with the many communities of interest that intersect with the aging field, providing a consistent funding stream from corporate partners. Responsible for the development, implementation and integration of a broad range of communications, social media, and public relations activities that align with the strategic direction and positioning of the organization.This role identifies alliances, creates funding proposals and develops programs and activities that are impactful to the Society, its members and the audience for which it is intended. Cultivates and advances programs that support practice changes that improve the care of aging individuals across the life course. Collaborate with all team members to effectively represent the capabilities of GSA to potential partners and alliances.Additionally, you will direct the communication policies, protocols and procedures of the organization’s brand. Works with management on pricing, product and market development, and gathering, analyzing, and utilizing market research to drive awareness of GSA and funding for its programs, products, and services.Essential duties and responsibilitiesEst. 50% of time to direct the development of new funding proposals that align with GSA strengths and strategic initiatives. Conduct environmental scans, market analyses and other research necessary to identify emerging strategic opportunities for GSA. Perform appropriate analyses of potential new ventures to determine the feasibility and viability of pursuing based upon available resources. Prepare, conduct and maintain corporate presentations and produce sales literature for strategic partners. Secure financially viable grants from strategic business partners.Direct the management of secured grants to ensure objectives are met and financial targets are obtained. Oversee the development of short- and long-range goals for each initiative that are linked to the long-term success of GSA. Create a shared alignment around the vision for the new initiative and establishes a functional base for the effort among staff. Cultivate long-term, productive relationships with all stakeholders to drive growth and sustainability.Direct the GSA Corporate Leaders Forum (CLF) – secures new CLF memberships from across the diverse community of appropriate corporate entities and ensures current members maintain their membership. Conducts regular CLF meetings on topical issues. Secure the support from the GSA President on new CLF memberships. Ensures the tenets of the GSA corporate relationship policy are understood and adhered to by organizational partners.Est. 35% to direct the development and implementation of strategic, communication, social media, public relation plans to promote GSA products, programs, and mission. Directs cross-functional organizational efforts to maximize opportunities. Ensure that publications and communications (e.g., Gerontology News, GSA Announcements, GSA social media and public relations messaging) are published on time. Direct ongoing metrics review to ensure greatest impact and return on Association investment. Direct the competitive intelligence gathering and analyses on key competitors, potential partners, and other factors (i.e., economic) that may impact the organization’s products and services. Interprets information and findings to inform business development/change decisions.Est. remainder to ensure all unit goals and objectives are achieved. Collaborates with other GSA operating units to support successful achievement of their goals and programs. Complies with all organizational policies & procedures, and project milestones, and ensures that cross department requirements, such as those established by accounting (i.e., budget and on-going financial management), human resource (i.e., performance management), and information technology are adhered to. Meets or exceeds budget targets (revenue and net margin) and financial performance goals and objectives.Direct the funding strategy, the journalists’ selection process, and the outcomes of the Journalists in Aging Fellows program.Manages the activities of three subordinate direct reports: Director of Communications; and two Directors of Strategic Alliances, with one Strategic Alliances Project Manager reporting to a director position. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these areas.Experience: 10-15+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strongly preferred 15+ years of management group experience andAssociation experience.Skills & knowledge:Broad functional experience in areas of strategic planning, communications, business and market development, market research and planning and promotions/advertising.Proven ability to position/launch/market diverse products.Strong project management, budget management, leadership and decision-making skills.Results oriented.
