Working in close collaboration with design, engineering, and product partners, the Product Design Lead for Internal Tools will define and deliver an intuitive and seamless experience across a suite of tools used to produce high-quality machine learning data and accelerate the development of self-driving technology.

Aurora's Product Design team - which includes Product Designers, Industrial Designers, Service Designers, and UX Researchers - is responsible for creating a remarkably better experience for the people who build and use Aurora's products and services. That means we are constantly challenging the status quo to deliver experiences that are simple, clear, and intuitive by design. In this role, you will

Lead the overall design and support product strategy for Aurora's internal toolsManage, lead, and mentor a small team of Product DesignersBuild a collaborative environment for cross functional collaborationPartner closely with engineering, product, and design peers to define a vision and to deliver incremental improvements that work for users and our businessFrequently engage in UX Research to understand and evaluate the usefulness and usability of our workflows and toolsLead strategic design initiatives to define, prototype and deliver innovative new user experiencesEnsure high quality design and consistency across product development teamsContribute to design system strategy, creation and maintenanceReport directly to the Head of DesignRequired Qualifications

7+ years of product design experience2+ years experience managing product designersExperience designing and shipping enterprise software, data products, or 3D visualization tools with complex technical requirementsExperience working on B2B or prosumer desktop appsStrong communication and experience aligning priorities with diverse stakeholdersEager to take on new challenges and willing to do what it takes to get the job doneA portfolio demonstrating relevant work experienceDesirable Qualifications

Experience leading larger design initiatives, ideally for new product introductionExperience working closely with engineering, product, and design peers to define, design, ship, and iterate on highly usable productsEnjoy turning ambiguous and highly technical problems into intuitive interactionsExperience building and maintaining design systemsAbility to work collaboratively across teams of people from all disciplines and levelsExperience guiding and prioritizing work for UX researchers and product designersAdvanced skills in interaction design, information architecture, and visual designHigh proficiency with Figma for prototyping and design systemsExperience designing for ML, AI-powered products, or self-driving technologyUnderstanding of freight and transportation industriesExperience with qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisionsAbility to travel 25% of the time

The base salary range for this position is $189,000 - $302,000 per year. Aurora's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
