Description

Amazon is seeking a multi-disciplinary Designer to support design efforts for the About Amazon website, which serves news and information about the company to external audiences.

Key job responsibilities

-This designer will be responsible for creating visual designs to accompany content such as news or feature stories on AboutAmazon.com.

-They will also create assets and designs for use across various web products, including the About Amazon website and other Amazon owned channels, such as the Amazon News email or Amazon.com.

-This person should have strong knowledge of web design and mobile UX best practices, as well as an understanding of motion graphics and animated GIF creation.

-They should also have experience working with design tools like Figma and Content Management Systems.

A day in the life

The ideal candidate is a strong project manager and creative designer who has experience working with editorial content and understands how to use data to strategically drive designs. This person is an excellent communicator, and will collaborate with partners across other teams, such as editorial, production, distribution, and tech, as well as external vendors.

We want someone who embraces innovation and experimentation, and delivers results with executional excellence. This person must be comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom-like setting and be willing to roll up their sleeves to get projects done.

About the team

This role is on the Owned Content & Channels team, which sits within Amazon’s Global Communications and Community Impact organization.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience designing digital, responsive, web or app products.

5+ years experience designing interactive storytelling, products, and tools.

A portfolio of work that shows 5+ years understanding user-centered design principles and showcases your process along with finished design work.

Figma experience or similar prototyping tools.

A proven track record of collaborating with stakeholders, outside vendors, and various participants on digital design projects that continuously evolve.

Experience working with data and analytics to make strategic design decisions; basic understanding of SEO.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing around editorial content, ideally at a digital news publication

Experience creating visual graphic digital assets at-scale

Motion graphic and animation experience a plus

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting

Experience designing web products around user behavior and knowledge of how to use design to encourage engagement

Demonstrated ability to operate successfully across multiple groups and business owners; comfortable working in a collaborative environment

Knowledge of accessibility principles and best practices

Self-driven—enjoys taking responsibility and making things happen

Ability to work autonomously across numerous projects and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where change is constant

Experience writing design requirements to front-end developers

Ability to communicate with front and back-end engineers to identify UX problems and collaborate to define paths to solutions.

Has a mobile-first mindset—being able to set responsive breakpoints for various web layouts and be able to confidently recommend UI additions or hide elements across device viewports.

Experience designing at-scale for international partner teams and scaling design systems and modular frameworks for localization to multiple countries and languages.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $72,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $155,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
