We are seeking a Publicity Assistant to support two senior members of the department, provide general administrative support, and assist with the creation of publicity campaigns for hardcover and trade paperback titles. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a wide variety of distinguished authors alongside a supportive team. We are focused on looking for creative, fresh, and diverse voices who care about books.

The position of publicity assistant at Penguin Press is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities, which include but are not limited to mailings, maintaining office supplies, and escorting authors to events and media. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA), and come into the office two days a week.

The Role:

Providing general administrative support, including book mailings and processing invoices, billings, and expense reportsPitching a broad spectrum of media for authors and their booksCoordinating travel and logistics for author tours and creating detailed tour schedules for campaignsDrafting press materials, including press releases, pitch and galley letters, and quote sheetsLiaising with organizations and bookstores to arrange author events and book salesResponding to calls and e-mails from media, authors, and booksellersCommunicating internally between the Marketing, Editorial, and Production departmentsMaintaining media clips, press contacts, and detailed logs of publicity projects in an internal database systemAccompanying authors at events and national media, in person or virtually

The Essentials:

Strong interest in serious nonfiction and literary fictionDesire to work in publicity and publishingExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environmentExcellent organizational skills and superb attention to detailStrong follow-up skillsProven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a teamProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and OutlookQuick at picking up different computer systems and databases

The salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
