JOB OVERVIEWRehearsal For Life’s after school theater program, Freelance Players, is looking for dynamic creative teaching artists to join their team as Troupe Music Directors for their youth performing arts troupes. As Troupe Music Director you will work in collaboration with the creative team to rehearse and produce an original musical while nurturing an environment of community, creativity and self-expression. As a process-based multi-arts program dedicated to empowering young people, it is our ultimate goal that through the creative process we are creating a transformative space where all young people feel seen, heard and celebrated for who they are. We are looking for someone who will support this goal!Approx. 2-3 hrs/wk during rehearsalsApprox. 15-20 hrs/wk during production week (one week a session, twice a year)POSITION STATUSPart time, non-exempt, contract.Salary Range: $1000-$2000 per sessionRESPONSIBILITIESPrepare and teach warm-ups at the start of each rehearsalCollaborate on auditions and casting of the show in alignment with the mission and vision of the organizationTeach the score while engaging the students on voice instruction and blending strategiesAttend and actively participate in all scheduled rehearsals (once a week after school), production weeks (Monday-Friday afternoon rehearsals the week leading up to the performances) and performance (at least two performances per troupe per session to be determined by the Troupe Director)Attend Rehearsal for Life and Freelance Players events and meetings as needed (e.g. Winter Party and Spring Festival)Collaborate with the Artistic Director and Choreographer on the community and relationships built within the troupeObserve and mediate student behavior and skill building to support evaluation measures and inform practiceQualifications:At least 2 years of direct experience music directing in an arts education environmentBA in music and arts education preferredThe ability to read grand staff sheet music and play chords and melody at the same time preferably on the piano but we are open to other instruments if you are very experienced in Music Directing on that instrumentStrong understanding of lead sheet chord symbols or very strong grand staff sight reading abilityThe ability to transpose the musical numbers to the best spot in the students range quicklyBasic skills on Sibelius, Finale or a music notation software of your choiceKnowledge of a wide variety of musical styles and ability to teach these stylesEnthusiasm for working with youth in an arts education environmentEnthusiasm for working in a creative and collaborative environmentDemonstrate an understanding and implementation of RFL missions and goalsInterest in seeking and engaging in continuous knowledge of socialHow To Apply:Please send a brief cover letter and resume to jobs@rehearsalforlife.org.
