SENIOR DESIGNER - Kids' Footwear (Global Timberland)

What will you do?

A day in the life of a Senior Designer for Kids' Footwear at Timberland looks a little like this.

You will be responsible for product integrity and interpretation with respect to design, manufacturing, quality, and cost. You will work on Outdoor and Lifestyle products preparing technical fit specifications and collaborating with designers and factories to ensure that the specifications, measurements, fit, and construction are in keeping with the product brief. As a trusted member of our Global Footwear Design Team reporting to the Director, Footwear Design Advanced Concepts & Kids,' you will build relationships and partnerships across the Global Footwear Design, Global Footwear Development, and Global Merchandising teams with an openness to giving and receiving feedback and a shared focus on team collaboration to achieve the best result.

Let's break down that day-in-the-life a bit more. You will:

Initiate and provide focused, feasible, functional, commercial, and innovative footwear ideas that are appropriate for the Timberland brand, and the Kids' consumer in a timely manner.Be responsible for the creation of new lasts and outsoles, and will need to have a strong collection building mindset.Support Innovation initiatives and be flexible to work across additional teams, including Men's and Women's, as needed with primary focus on Kids.'Lead with a "Design First" point of view to bring innovation and brand-right products to the marketplace.Create two- and three-dimensional sketches illustrating new, unique product ideas and innovative concepts which meet the expectations delineated in the product brief.Use creative problem-solving skills to assist the Global Merchandising and Development teams in fulfilling product and calendar objectives quickly and efficiently.Focus attention on the extent of the product briefs to support the category goals and objectives.Develop an awareness of key accounts and channels of distribution derived from market insights and trends to ensure concept feasibility.Follow the Brand's creative direction within the application and use of traditional and new materials, compounds, and constructions and color direction.Gather and present fashion and trend inspiration and storyboards to support concepts relevant to projects.Develop an understanding of the Outdoor Footwear category by following consumer trends through social media and utilizing trend resources.Create unique graphic prints and elements for footwear applications on patterns and materials.In conjunction with a product developer, prepare the approved design into a package of two- and/or three-dimensional information which adequately describes and utilizes current and feasible manufacturing and assembly techniques; while taking into consideration performance, fit, and costing objectives.Maintain and provide a clear form of documentation and communication with team members to ease the transfer of the design solutions from concept through commercialization.Occasionally travel to regional and global locations to present and execute design concepts with a focus on business (accounts), insight (consumer and market), and inspiration (trade and trend shows).Work in partnership with the Design, Global Merchandising, and Footwear Development teams to execute project direction, product process, cost targets, and deliverables.Collaborate and liaise with the Product Creation, Marketing, and Merchandising teams.Use creative problem-solving skills to assist Product Management and Development teams fulfill product and calendar objectives quickly and efficiently.What do you need to succeed?

We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundational skills you'll need to succeed and excel. Additionally, while formal education in a related field, such as a bachelor's degree in art or design, is great to have, we are most interested in your 5+ years of experience and professional achievements, ideally with a focus on outdoor products.

The foundational skills you will need in this position are:

Experience with all aspects of product creation including, but not limited to:

Outsole creation and Blueprint experienceTechnical package execution to Development.

A strong knowledge of leather, textiles, graphic, and color.Solid communication skills and the ability to communicate concepts with digital renderings.The ability to contribute and generate ideas with designers.The propensity to respond quickly to multiple projects with strong time management skills.A tenacious ability to set priorities and manage deadlines.A highly organized and self-motivated mindset with a critical eye for detail.The capability to work and build relationships with cross-functional teams.Creative problem-solving skills to meet product and calendar objectives quickly and efficiently.Strong organizational and communication skills (oral, written in English).Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) design applications such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office Suite.There are also a few skills that are not required but preferred.

A knowledge or interest in learning additional computer design (Solidworks, Alias, Rhino, or other design software) is a plus.

Hiring Range:$89,600.00 USD - $112,000.00 USD annually

Incentive Potential : This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential.
