Summary

TheTaubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning (http://taubmancollege.umich.edu/) is looking for a director of marketing and communications to increase the impact of Taubman College, grow the number of qualified applicants to our programs, and further establish our position as an institution shaping the future of learning in architecture, urban planning, and urban technology.

Reporting to the assistant dean for advancement (our organizational chart (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_qLuMmlTc4zbKiLs7HQ78cde38jccvJU/view?usp=sharing) ), you will lead the marketing and communications team (5 individuals) and develop strategic plans that integrate marketing, branding, communications, and advertising strategies into a cohesive experience that strengthens our identity. You will serve Taubman College as a master storyteller and brand builder. We are looking for someone who understands the interplay between brand, strategy, operations, and culture to guide long-term goals.

This job is situated in Ann Arbor and on campus work is expected three days a week, with a few fully remote weeks throughout the academic year and a fully remote period from mid-May to mid-August. Participation in key college events is required, as well as other events where marketing and communications staff roles are needed. Based on your familiarity with the architecture and urban planning disciplines, additional time working in the office may be required during the initial 90 days so you can learn about the work of our faculty and students to help you be effective in your role.

Responsibilities*

Provide leadership in the strategy, design, management, and continuous improvement of our brand, including establishing brand-level marketing and communications goals, a cohesive marketing and communication strategy, and brand-level messaging

Plan, lead and execute the conception, design, writing, production, and quality presentation of the Taubman College website and other multi-media communications.

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic marketing plan to grow the number of qualified applicants to our nine degree programs within the college.

Provide advice to the college's Office of Student Affairs and, in collaboration with other staff, produce targeted marketing pieces and tools to attract top prospective students.

Position Taubman College as a leader in architecture and urban planning education by communicating the success of faculty, students, and activities in local, national and international media, and working with the college's media relations consultant.

Manage the relationship with the college's consultant for media relations.

Provide counsel to the assistant dean for advancement and senior leadership team on marketing practices and technological trends and collaborate on building an outstanding marketing operation.

Develop, edit, and provide ideas for the dean's scripts/presentations and other communications for internal and external constituencies.

Oversee college efforts in social media and online brand management. Track Taubman College's presence, growth, and market share on social media platforms and build processes for using analytic insights to guide marketing efforts.

Direct the marketing and communications team by providing direction, setting and evaluating individual goals, developing and sustaining appropriate training, and monitoring primary focus areas of team members.

In conjunction with team members, collect and interpret information to make informed decisions. Use data and analytics to think about content, platforms, audiences, time and user experience.

Strategize and direct photo and video production with consulting photographers and videographers, and determine channels for use of this material.

Plan and administer marketing budgets with the assistant dean of advancement and financial staff.

Work collaboratively with the assistant dean of advancement, dean, and development staff on all external messaging for the capital campaign.

Work collaboratively with all advancement staff on external and internal communications to ensure brand level messaging.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.

Ten years of progressively responsible work experience, preferably at a university (or a comparably complex nonprofit organization or large organization within the industry of architecture, planning and design) managing a team of people.

Experience creating cohesive marketing and communication strategies for an organization and in brand development from concept through production, distribution and management.

Experience marketing degree programs to prospective students.

Considerable experience implementing marketing and communication projects with major omnichannel marketing campaigns which meet or exceed measurable goals.

Knowledge of all communications channels; publications, web, and multimedia with an understanding of online/social media strategy and savviness with respective platforms.

Expertise in using web-based tools (e.g., Google Analytics, MailChimp, social networking applications and media sharing sites) and website content management software.

Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000. Factors used to determine salary include experience, knowledge and skills for the position. You are encouraged to discuss salary questions to honor transparency throughout the recruiting process.
