Job Summary:

The mission of the California State University, San Bernardino's (CSUSB) Career Center is to empower students and recent alumni to develop a lifelong skill set for an ever-changing labor market through exploration, programming, and experiential learning opportunities to meet their personal and professional goals. Organized under the Division of Student Affairs, the Career Center takes pride in enhancing each student's college experience by bridging the gap between CSUSB students and employment opportunities. The candidate for this position will act as an office ambassador by creating visually impactful materials for the student body and prospective employers.

Graphic Designer Student Assistant will support the Career Center Staff. The designer will be tasked with various mediums, from office resources to event promotional material. While they will have clear guidance and direction on each project, they are expected to be able to work alone or collaboratively, using their own knowledge of design software and creative interpretation to problem solve. The candidate should be able to accept and provide feedback, communicate effectively, adhere to timelines, and keep all digital files organized. In addition, the candidate will manage social media outlets for the office. Other support roles could include but are not limited to data entry, circulating print materials, making copies, taking messages from phone calls, managing walk-in traffic, and other duties as needed by the office. They will be role models for other student assistants and graphic designers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Provide excellent customer service to employers, faculty, staff, and studentsServe as a first point of contact by answering inquiries in person and via phoneAssist Career Center staff with day-to-day projects and errandsUtilize an electric cart to transport equipment to Career Center eventsAnswer employer questions, providing information on upcoming career eventsProvide Career Center assistance in campus events (i.e., providing resources, tabling, and attending campus-wide events)Prepare laptops, iPads, and giveaways for presentations and tabling eventsMinimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.Required Qualifications

Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)Eligible to work in the United StatesPayroll Requirement: Social Security CardPreferred Qualifications

Federal Work-Study eligible status students are preferred but not requiredAvid knowledge and experience in all Adobe Creative Suite programs and CanvaTime management skills and ability to meet deadlinesFile and data organizational skillsAttention to detailAttend work shifts on time and allow adequate notification for coverage when unable to attend a work shiftPossess and maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and work areaAbility to productively work independently and as part of a groupStudents selected must be available to work during regular business hours and according to the office's needsReceive and provide feedbackFlexibility to learn new skills, styles, and modes to satisfy each project's goals and creative vision and the Career Center overall.Available to work 10-20 hours per week, with a two-semester commitment

Compensation and Benefits:

Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.00 - $24.00 per hour.

The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.

Position Information:

Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal

Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm).

Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).

This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.

As of January 1, 2022, the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.

California State University, San Bernardino in not a sponsoring agency for staff or management positions (i.e. H1-B Visas).

Conditions of Employment

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Driver's License Check

Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
