We seek a dynamic and driven professional to join our kids’ editorial group in a new role, leading our Sourcebooks eXplore imprint. The Editorial Director for Sourcebooks eXplore will strategically manage the list and editors of this exciting imprint. Our kids and young adult programs are thriving, and we know there is even more opportunity to expand the reach and impact of our authors and books. This role is a great fit for you if you are a data-minded strategic thinker, have fantastic relationships with authors, agents and business partners, love managing great people and collaborating with a team, look for opportunities in both traditional and nontraditional ways, and truly believe that books change lives!

An outstanding Editorial Director for these imprints will:Be responsible for long-range strategy, planning, and list management.Analyze marketplace needs and competition and strategically manage a list and schedule for each season.Represent acquisitions and marketing teams with impactful strategies when meeting with prospective and current authors, agents, and business partners.Create and expand upon strong working relationships with agents and the children’s book community in order to influence acquisitions and strategic development.Position new product in the marketplace with respect to content, category, title, subtitle, physical packaging, design packaging, marketing copy, etc.Partner closely with marketing, publicity, and sales on all opportunities.Develop strategic alliances and create new initiatives for product acquisition, marketing initiatives, and sales opportunities.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will:Have 7+ years of trade book publishing experience in children’s nonfiction books.Be a self-starter, exhibiting initiative, leadership, and a strong desire to grow in book and product development.Play well with others. Seriously, we’re a hard-working team who also happen to be pretty nice.Juggle and coordinate. We want a clear communicator who is detail-oriented, organized, and can keep short- and long-term projects on schedule while following through on deadlines.Love books. This is a must.
