ART-STUDIO FINE ARTS (IN-ASFA-IUINA)

Department Information

The Herron School of Art and Design, Indiana's premier accredited art, design, and music school, is seeking a versatile and dynamic Studio Technician (Art Instructor) to join our vibrant Sculpture Program. This role is multifaceted with opportunities and responsibilities that extend beyond the studio walls including, but not limited to teaching, academic support, procurement, budget management, equipment maintenance, and facilitating public art initiatives with community engagement at its core.

Job Summary

Department-Specific ResponsibilitiesCollaborates with faculty to provide hands-on support during studio sessionsOffers guidance to students on techniques and safety protocolsPartners with faculty in the maintenance and setup of tools and equipmentEnsures a conducive environment for creative explorationPurchases studio materialsAssists with managing budgetsAssists faculty and students in coordinating logistical aspects of projectsHelps develop and facilitate initiatives to integrate public art into the communityGeneral ResponsibilitiesInstructs courses in one or more fields of fine art, including glass, ceramics, printmaking, digital imaging and maker-space, studio art, cinema, wood working, metal working, and studio art.Designs art curriculum ensuring adherence to proper methods and materials; determines budget needs.Oversees art studio, fabrication, and classroom spaces to ensure set-up aligns with safety standards and instructional needs. Sets schedules for spaces.Maintains all equipment in proper working condition with university safety measures in place and replaces equipment as needed.Works with faculty to provide safety orientations; performs orientation sessions and instruct students and faculty on the safe and proper use of equipment and materials related to fine arts.Schedules, trains, and manages work of graduate student assistants and student/hourly staff.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
