Technical Director

to provide vision, leadership and oversight for Jhpiego’s Gender and Adolescent and Youth Health(AYH) activities across the organization and will ensure technical excellence across the portfolio of projects. The

will provide strategic and thought leadership for programming, represent Jhpiego globally and develop and maintain relationships that grow Jhpiego’s portfolio of stand-alone gender and youth programming as well as gender and youth integration across health areas, and strengthen its reputation as a global leader in gender transformative programming and Adolescent and Youth Health.The

Technical Director

will also oversee and ensure quality technical assistance to country programs, supervise and manage technical staff, oversee progress towards unit workplans, and provide technical guidance to DEIB manager on gender and youth mainstreaming within diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.Responsibilities

Technical Assistance & Quality ProgrammingProvides senior level, high quality technical assistance by combining industry knowledge and best practices with strategic program expertise, guidance, and advice for country programs.Ensures that the programs that are assisted are technically sound, evidence-based, and responsive to the priorities and needs of the countries and donors.Conceptualizes, designs, and develops plans for seamless integration and implementation of activities/initiatives in alignment with the vision, strategic plan, and organizational priorities of Jhpiego.Works collaboratively across other technical units to identify synergistic opportunities and harmonized quality programming and maximum integration of approaches across all Jhpiego clinical, technical, and program areas.(This includes collaboration with the DEIB Team to develop and implement policies and programming relating to sexual harassment and safeguarding; gender and age disparities in leadership; opportunities for career growth for women, gender minorities, and young professionals; and unconscious bias and discrimination.)Ensures coordinated and quality provision of technical assistance to country programs, including drawing upon global data and trends to identify strategic opportunities, identifying needed shifts in technical approaches and implementation and by identifying opportunities to fill critical knowledge gaps.Ensures high-quality technical approaches, defines measures of success for technical area, identifies country and global quality issues and trends and recommend strategies to resolve them.Identifies and actively seeks opportunities to integrate priorities across the organization and works with Jhpiego country colleagues to operationalize strategic objectives and activities in different country settings.Assesses and analyzes issues that impede progress and develops and tests appropriate strategies for long-term, sustainable resolution.Establishes methods, metrics and quality standards to measure the success of designated initiatives in supported countries/programs.Global Strategy Development & ImplementationSets the vision, strategy, and approach for Jhpiego’s gender and AYH programming. Oversees implementation of the strategy and the development and execution of the workplan and budget, maintaining accountability for achieve priority objectives.Conceptualizes global technical strategies and approaches that will transform the delivery and implementation of interventions across the organization and achieve organizational priorities.Conceptualizes, designs, and provides portfolio-level oversight for donor-funded projects to achieve project goals and strengthen performance.Provides strategic and thought leadership to guide, oversee, and integrate innovations, new approaches. and technical priorities to drive and accelerate progress within country programs.Works closely with Jhpiego Country Office staff, Global Programs and Technical Excellence and other technical teams and offices within the organization to ensure strategies are aligned with project and organizational needs and realities.Organizational Capacity BuildingProvides leadership for capacity building, coaching, and mentoring of staff and local partners.Designs sustainable capacity building approaches that address organizational needs and priorities and positions the organization for future growth, based on unit priorities, global trends, updates and quality assurance data.Keeps abreast of and ensures latest technical guidance is widely disseminated and applied. Conceptualizes and leads implementation of organizational-wide strategies to institutionalize best practices and the most up to date technical and clinical practices.Coaches and mentors Technical Advisors to hone advanced “soft skills” required for building relationships and delivering technical assistance in complex operating environments.New Program Development & Donor RelationsCultivates and builds new partnerships with organizations, private enterprises and stakeholders to expand Jhpiego’s capabilities.Generates leads through relationships and expert knowledge of donor priorities and opportunities.Develops and grows excellent professional relationships with colleagues, counterparts, and donors worldwide to maximize Jhpiego’s impact.Develops new business opportunities, secures funding, and contributes to positioning, leads development, and proposal design and production. Analyses business development opportunities to inform decisions around which opportunities to pursue.Defines and supports strategic opportunities to communicate Jhpiego’s technical expertise and position the organization through communication products that demonstrate Jhpiego’s technical expertise, results, and programming excellence.Organizational RepresentationIdentifies strategic opportunities including international conferences, meetings, groups, and committees for demonstrating Jhpiego’s technical excellence and positioning the organization as a technical leader in gender and AYH programming.Builds Jhpiego’s reputation as a global leader in gender and AYH by serving as a global thought leader on relevant global technical working groups or through other influential engagements.Represents the organization to high level government officials or in other venues that are a high priority for the organization.SupervisionResponsible for the management of team members providing leadership, guidance, coaching, mentorship and counselling where neededGrows team expertise to align with organizational demand and direction while assessing team skills / capabilities and continually looking for ways to provide / enhance the value deliveredLeads a high-performing team and provides ongoing feedback and performance reviewsTracks, monitors and effectively addresses performance of team membersManages employees in compliance with all HR policies, procedures and guidelines of conductShares knowledge, information, skills and subject matter expertise among the team and ensures the timely communication of issues while encouraging good working relationships with other functions / teamsRecruits for hires to ensure a highly diverse, qualified workforce with the necessary capabilities needed to achieve goalsRequired Qualifications

Masters Degree or higher in Public Health, International Development, Women’s and Gender Studies, or related field, or equivalent experience10 years experience of gender and adolescent and youth health technical leadership 5 years experience in project and/or team managementProven leadership skills and expertise in technical assistance and quality programmingAbility to lead multiple and competing demands and establish prioritiesDemonstrated ability to lead and oversee implementation of gender and AYH programming.Excellent understanding of donor environment, priorities and processesProven track record of generating leads and leading new program development activitiesProven experience in leading and supervising highly skilled and qualified technical personnel with diverse cultural and professional backgroundsProven experience establishing strong collaborative relationships across technical areasand with external partnersStrong change management, results oriented and decision-making skillsExcellent interpersonal and written and oral presentation skillsExperience communicating with a broad and diverse set of stakeholdersAbility to work with flexibility, efficiency, and enthusiasm in a fast-paced and complex internal and external environmentPreferred Qualifications

10-12 years of relevant experienceThe salary range for this role is expected to be: $118,619 - $158,158.Total Rewards:The referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
