Summary:

The Unreal Engine Technical Artist will help bridge the gap between the 3D Artists on our Interactive Team, and programmers on our Engineering Team, ensuring that design intent and functionality are both adequately maintained within real-time experiences. They will help support artists when 3D models/motion graphic animations need to be imported into Unreal Engine and modified via. blueprints, as well as help optimize 3D assets in traditional digital content creation software. They will also assist the engineering team when core game mechanics need to be tested within Unreal Engine. This person will work with digital media and the latest software creation tools to help artists and programmers deliver designs, ideas, assets, and animations for cross-platform experiences that will define the future of live events through virtual reality, augmented reality, mobile and beyond. We expect our technical artists to be versatile, willing to take on new and unknown challenges and enthusiastic when tackling new technical problems as we push the technology forward.

The ideal candidate is a person who possesses both design and technical skills with rigorous attention to detail. They have experience working with artists and engineers and are capable of creating solutions for both technical and artistic issues in an organized and timely manner. They are familiar with various technologies but know how to choose the best technology for the job at hand. Ideally, they are familiar with the gaming, sports & eSports industry as well as digital, tech, and streaming media.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate closely with a cross disciplinary teams (Design, Experiences, Product and Engineering).Work with programmers/engineers to ensure proprietary applications include necessary features that allow technicians to successfully operate Unreal Engine on multi-GPU arrays.Authoring and development of plugins in Unreal Engine that include design templates and tools for both internal and external developers.Authoring of shaders in Unreal Engine, including dynamic elements that can be modified in real time.Authoring of workflow scripts between DCC tools using Python.Creation of rapid prototype levels within Unreal Engine that serve as proof of concepts for design related elements (composition, lighting, graphics) and technical requirements (performance, operability).Creation of interactive experiences from conception to completion within Unreal Engine.Collaborate closely with concept artists to develop initial ideas for interactive experiences.Work with Senior Environment Artist to create 3D block outs of environments to test composition and scale.UV mapping and retopologizing 3D geometry.Export 3D assets from DCC tools into Unreal Engine.Work with Senior Technical Artist to place assets in UE environment, assign materials, rig lighting, program interactive elements via blueprints, test project on multi-GPU arrays / domes, and optimize 3D assets / blueprints / lighting for better performance.Create sports stat widgets using Unreal Engine's UMG UI Designer.Development of documents/guidelines for internal and external developers that pertain to the inter-operation and functionality between Unreal Engine, nDisplay, and proprietary software that controls LED screens with GPU arrays.Stay on top of industry trends and emerging technologies.Exemplify excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to deftly tailor technical communications to any audience.Push the limits, try new technologies, take calculated risks, swing for the fences and proactively search for the best solutions and ideas in the marketplace.Experience:

3-5+ years experience as a Technical Artist working within game engine(s).Working knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 is required.A strong portfolio of previous work and completed projects.Experience using Unreal Engine's Blueprint and material shader systems.Authoring custom shaders and Niagara particle systems, programming game triggers, creating/controlling animations via sequencer.Strong working knowledge of industry-standard software - 3DS Max, Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D, Redshift, Vray, Cycles, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.Working knowledge of Python scripting.Basic familiarity of C++ programming.Knowledge of visual design principles and standards (proportion, composition, lighting, texture).Bachelor's degree in Interactive Technology, Media Design, Game Design, or equivalent practical experience.You're not afraid of an open, candid, and respectful work environment.Passion for gaming, video live-streaming, sports or eSports is a plus.Experience in working with a cross-functional, distributed team from concept through completion and future iterations including agile methodologiesCandidates must include a portfolio demonstrating their technical artistry and relevant project work for considerationThe annualized base salary range for this position in California is $100,000 to $125,000. The base salary offered will factor in internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience, among other factors.
