The Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) serves as the catalyst for enhancing the quality of the undergraduate student experience while promoting on-time graduation for all undergraduate students at IUPUI. 3 units report up to the DUE: University College, Honors College and the Institute for Engaged Learning.

The Office of Communications and Digital Strategy serves as the central communications team for the Division of Undergraduate Education, providing marketing and communication leadership, strategy, services, and education to division stakeholders.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Communications and Digital Strategy, the Creative Specialist is a skilled visual communicator with strong abilities to convey information, tells stories, and drives action through graphic design, photography, and videography.

Department-Specific ResponsibilitiesPlans, develops, produces, and manages design, photo, and video deliverables on behalf of units within the IU Indianapolis Division of Undergraduate Education and for non-student recruitment functions within the Division of Enrollment Management.Manages and supervises a team of interns to meet many of the creative deliverable needs.Works with colleagues within the office and other division stakeholders to identify and meets design needs for division and client projects.Designs basic and complex communication, marketing, and web materials by established deadlines for a variety of audiences and for distributions across print and digital platforms.Independently applies brand guidelines and design principles.Provides feedback and guidance on other designs produced within the division.Works with vendors on units' behalf to order professionally printed materials and imprint items.Meets photography needs of the divisions.Proactively plans and executes photoshoots and responds to photo requests from division units.Manages all photo repositories and equipment.Plans, films, edits, and produces semi-professional videos for key initiatives and projects within the divisions.Coordinates with contracted videographers for projects requiring professional videos.Supervises and manages student interns to support graphic design, photo, and video needs.Hires, trains, supervises evaluates, and manages the work of each intern.Plans and conducts team-specific and whole office intern meetings, celebrations, and recognition programs.Represents the division's design, photo, and video landscape across the university by partnering with other university groups, teams, and committees and maintains active participation in relevant communities of practice.Participates in professional development opportunities and stays updated on emerging technologies, tools, and strategies within specialty area.Shares and extends knowledge within office and across divisions.General Responsibilities

Identifies basic and complex graphic design projects and performs research, conceptualizes design, sets timeline, and designs visual elements for use in a variety of marketing and communications needs, adhering to IU brand guidelines.Regularly consults with marketing and communications staff and other key stakeholders to determine project needs and ensure graphic design elements align with strategy and objectives.Designs the layout and format for digital and print graphic design content, including selection of colors, images, fonts, logos, and placement, for various marketing and communications needs, audiences, and platforms; may delegate basic design tasks to Graphic Design Assistant(s).Creates images, graphic elements, illustrations, and other visual content using a variety of graphic software, including Adobe Creative Suite and PowerPoint; takes on special and/or urgent projects.Seeks input from peers and stakeholders on a variety of graphic design elements to evaluate effectiveness of different aesthetics, colors, fonts, images, etc.May provide organizational training on graphic design methodology and strategy.May provide guidance to Graphic Design Assistants.Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, art, visual communications, photography, media arts, marketing, communications or related field.WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

2 years in relevant field through professional work, part-time employment, or internships.Preferred

Experience with videography.Experience with project management software.Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office.SKILLS

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer, audio/visual equipment, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office Basecamp, online file storage (e.g. SharePoint), social media platforms, survey management tools (e.g. Qualtrics), employee scheduling systems and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
