Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

The Digital Media Specialist will be responsible for creating visually appealing graphics, managing the City website, and creating e-newsletters and social media content. The ideal candidate should be proficient in graphic design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite and have experience with website management, and social media content creation and analytics. They will assist the communications team in developing and publishing content on behalf of the City of Beaumont and its various departments that support the overall communications strategy through research and trend analysis, platform determination, benchmarking, and audience identification, and will be responsible for creating content for various platforms, developing post schedules, optimizing information for the right audience, and fact-checking information, along with updating website and social channels to build meaningful connections with the community, making data-driven decisions, and tracking metrics and insights. They must be technically savvy to be able to update content on the website backend (Civic Plus and Wordpress), stay up to date with all current tools, trends, and best practices and adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Working Conditions

Normal office environment. Must be available 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday, extended hours, weekends, and holidays and occasional travel, when necessary.

Minimum Essential Qualifications

Knowledge : Knowledge in office practices and procedures, equipment, and software, including Microsoft Office, and other software applications; skilled in photography and graphic design (Canva and Adobe Creative Suite); all current social media platforms, Wordpress and video production and editing skills a plus, must develop a complete working knowledge of Beaumont including departments, services, and programs.

Skills/Abilities:

Proven work experience in communications, web design, social media marketing or as a Digital Media Specialist. Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills. Social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge; knowledge of web design, web development, CRO and SEO; knowledge of online marketing and understanding of major marketing channels. Positive attitude, detail and customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability; excellent time and project management skills; ability to develop, produce, and distribute professional quality press releases and newsletters; skilled with basic principles of journalism, English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and business correspondence; excellent in organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:

Frequently drives talks on the telephone, uses a personal computer, sits, walks, stands, writes by hand and sees. Infrequently, squats, twists body, sorts, stoops, kneels, push and pulls objects weighing 20 lbs. or less; lifts or holds objects weighing 10 lbs. or less.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations or equivalent with a minimum of 2-3 years prior marketing experienceOther

Must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires, within 30 days of residency, the possession of a valid Texas driver's license.
