General Summary:
Under supervision of the Director Public Relations the Media Representative develops and distributes news releases, acts as agency spokesperson, creates and executes media relations activities, availability to work variable hours to respond to accidents and critical incidents- in conjunction with other designated members of the communications team- and supports internal and external content creation for the team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In collaboration with the director and designated communications staff, the media contact fulfills media requests for information, coordinates interviews, and acts as agency spokesperson in broadcast, print, and online media.
  • Responds to accidents and critical incidents involving DART services, coordinating media relations support on scene.
  • Serve as the secondary point of contact for media inquiries during crisis situations, providing timely and accurate information to protect the organization's reputation.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with journalists/editors from regional, national, and international news and trade media organizations and influencers across various media outlets to secure positive coverage and promote the organization's initiatives.
  • Provide oversight of creating, distributing, and pitching press releases, media advisories, and other media materials to generate media interest and coverage- ensure AP style across all channels.
  • Work with the digital media team to identify opportunities and content to post across channels.
  • Creates and coordinates high-profile media events, tours, and briefings.
  • Researches, writes, and creates content that supports media relations as well as internal communications initiatives.
  • Works with webmaster to maintain content on DART websites.
  • Monitors media coverage and industry trends to identify opportunities and potential risks, providing regular updates and insights to senior leadership.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums, excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible media/publications experience in corporate communications, news reporting, or related environments.
  • Fluency in written and verbal Spanish is preferred.
  • Proficiency in PC software applications, including Microsoft Office and other related software applications.
  • Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Demonstrated mastery of written and verbal English language skills (preferred) in a journalism/corporate communication setting with the ability to prepare and execute concise and professional written/oral communications inside and outside of DART.
  • Analytical and creative skills to find solutions to complex interpersonal, technical, and administrative problems.
  • Must be able to maintain confidential information as needed and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work variable hours in an on-call environment.
  • Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; acts with customers in mind; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions, including dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming the incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
