Located in Hillsborough Township, N.J., Duke Farms is a center for applied conservation and sustainability that restores nature and ecosystems, demonstrates equitable climate transition strategies and engages leaders and visitors with the wonder of nature to spark change. Duke Farms is a center of the Doris Duke Foundation (DDF), whose mission is to build a more creative, equitable and sustainable future by investing in artists and the performing arts, environmental conservation, medical research, child well-being and greater mutual understanding among diverse communities. POSITION

A direct lever of influence, the communications practice is a strategic tool for Duke Farms, securing earned media against the ideas, business strategies and thought leadership that are important to the organization. The Communications Manager will amplify Duke Farms’ transformation to a world-class center for applied conservation and science by seizing opportunities and leveraging information to drive impactful initiatives. Working directly with the Deputy Executive Director of Personnel and Programs and partnering with the Influence & Marketing team and other staff across the foundation, the Manager will develop and execute comprehensive marketing and communication plans that align with Duke Farms’ strategic objectives, while maximizing the organization’s impact. In this dynamic role, they will synthesize complex information into compelling messaging, resulting in effective campaigns that resonate with target audiences across diverse media platforms and that build out Duke Farms’ online presence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Content Creation and Management: Develop and manage content for various communication channels such as websites, newsletters, press releases, blogs and social media platforms, that aligns with Duke Farms’ voice and goals with the aim of engaging and growing audiences.
  • Social Media Management: Create engaging and high-quality content, including graphics, videos and written posts, that resonates with and enhances Duke Farms’ target audiences. Develop and manage content calendars, ensuring timely and relevant posts across all platforms.
  • Media Relations: Cultivate relationships with media outlets and journalists to secure media coverage and bolster Duke Farms’ media presence. Pitch stories, respond to media inquiries and organize press conferences or media briefings.
  • Brand Management: Monitor and guide the representation of Duke Farms in all external communications, maintaining brand integrity and alignment with organizational values and objectives.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct market research to understand industry trends, competitor activities and audience preferences, to drive influence and impact and to refine and strengthen Duke Farms’ communication strategies and campaigns.
  • Campaign Management: Create and manage influence and marketing campaigns that engage audiences and promote Duke Farms’ strategic initiatives, products and services, setting clear and defined objectives, strategies and key measurement criteria for each.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate with various stakeholders, including employees, partners, consultants, event attendees, visitors and government officials, to keep them informed and engaged with Duke Farms’ activities and goals.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Monitor and analyze marketing and communication performance metrics to optimize campaigns and strategies and report on progress and effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in communications, with a proven track record of managing and executing successful communication campaigns, particularly in social and digital media.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing principles and best practices.
  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using social media management tools and analytics platforms.
  • Demonstrated understanding of using data analytics to make informed and strategic decisions.
  • Ability to craft engaging narratives and content that align with organizational goals.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong decision-making and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with media contacts, influencers and partners.
