Mission + Vision

Black Girls Know Best (BGKB) is a radical liberation collective and community organization dedicated to rectifying and restoring safety, honor, and power within the Black girlhood experience. We are dedicated to amplifying the power of Black girls and addressing systemic inequities through our core pillars: Storytelling + Education, Social Justice, Reproductive Justice, Healing Justice, Innovation + Leadership, and Community Power + Joy. With reverence for Black girls of all ages, our programming has a specific focus on those aged 11-20, recognizing their role as leaders and change-makers. Our commitment is to position Black girls as creative, educational, and civic/social justice leaders who possess the power to transform complex systems of oppression that hinder their access to liberatory spaces.

We are predicated on the belief that

Black girls know best,

as they hold critical insights and the inherent expertise necessary to enact transformative change and achieve collective liberation.

BGKB is committed to creating safe havens and educational spaces where Black girls can thrive, cultivate a profound sense of belonging and sisterhood, and exercise their leadership with agency, and without restriction. Our work seeks to increase global awareness of the U.S. power structures that negatively impact Black girls while collaborating with Black girls to create a new world that challenges systemic structures of inequity. Our work is dedicated to instilling power into Black girls, thus allowing them to challenge and dismantle the systems that marginalize them, ensuring that they have access to joyful, liberated spaces that reflect their true potential and worth. By integrating education, activism, and community support, we strive to equip Black girls with the tools they need to lead, innovate, and effect transformative change in their lives and beyond.—Black Girls Know Best (BGKB) envisions a world where Black girls are honored and valued as experts of their own experiences, and where their activism is nurtured through dynamic programs and initiatives. Our goal is to empower Black girls ages 4-24, particularly those aged 11-20, by involving them in academic, cultural, and policy work centered on Black girlhood. Through this work, Black girls will be recognized and respected as innovative and autonomous beings deserving of safety, care, and nurturing. Their roles and achievements will be celebrated across civic, educational, and justice sectors, fostering an equitable society where Black girls are protected from harm and fully supported. We bring this vision to life through various programs, grassroots collaborations, and academic partnerships.
