The Program Mgr., Communications & Community position exists to strengthen the ministry’s organizational culture by building informed, engaged, and empowered employees. Using strong written and digital communication skills, this position raises staff awareness, knowledge and understanding of outward-facing ministry initiatives and internal events and opportunities. Valuing clear, concise, and compelling communications, this position plans, creates and maintains written and visual content for the staff intranet and newsletter and assists with coordinating and preparing for staff-wide events. This position also initiates and facilitates highly diversified tasks in support of ministry-wide staff care, internal communications, as well as community relations; has comprehensive knowledge of Focus on the Family policies and procedures; utilizes a broad knowledge of the functions and general operating methods and policies of supervisor(s) and the ministry with minimal supervision; plans/arranges own work using a wide range of procedures; assumes responsibility for general decisions; on own initiative, analyzes problems, recommends solutions, and follows through until resolved; refers only specific, unusual problems to supervisor.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Manages staff care program including recruiting teachers for classes, creating new opportunities to increase staff connectedness, increasing engagement for ministry prayer, developing communications plans for staff care activities, and overseeing staff and volunteers assisting with the program

Manages all staff care programs at all Focus on the Family sites, cross organizationally

Works closely with the Director, Organizational Development, Communications and Community in managing effective ministry-wide internal communications processes, procedures, and materials to ensure that information flow is accurate, timely, and relevant

Is responsible for staff communications intranet graphical display and standards, timeliness of updates, relevance, and accuracy of information

Manages ministry-wide in-person and Microsoft Teams staff meetings

Plans, edits, and writes content, produces video, and creates layout for a variety of internal communications mediums, staff intranet, and weekly newsletter

Initiates and coordinates staff involvement with local non-profits, including opportunities to serve with staff community hours

Assists in coordinating, promoting, and implementing Focus on the Family’s all-staff training programs and staff development programs

Serves as secretary on the Community Roundtable Board as agreed to by Focus leadership and the Roundtable board

Interfaces with other Focus departments via phone, email, and face to face contact and functions on behalf of the Director of Organizational Development and Communications

Relays relevant employee information and trends to supervisor

Initiates and coordinates special internal events

Assists in developing, tracking, and monitoring budget

Tracks and maintains a department Purchasing Card

Operates independently in absence of supervisor, calling on staff when required; assists and advises supervisor on problems

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

Periodically may host or present training sessions

Performs other duties as assigned

Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job:

Must have a persuasive capability to work with all levels of staff to ensure preparation for training activities are completed in timely fashion and be able to interact with executive-level leadership for internal communications

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

Office environment

Local travel is required for Community Relations duties

Knowledge/Experience:

Associates degree in Business, Communications or related degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred

3-5 years of human resources or communications experience

Skills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts:

Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively (written and verbal)

Ability to utilize or learn a variety of computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Power Point, Impact Intranet updates, e-learning reports, and PDF forms for the copy center

Ability to use judgment to solve moderately complex problems within the limits of standard policy and practice

Ability and forthrightness to question standard operating procedure in the interest of efficiency and/or progress

Exceptionally strong organizational skills

Ability to work appropriately with confidential data/information and preserve confidences

Stewardship Requirements:

Is responsible for handling funds for The Community Roundtable

Pay Range: $26.00 to $30.00/hr
