Director, Brand & Communications (Contract Employee)

is a pivotal role designed to amplify the Ad Council's mission through strategic thought leadership and content creation. We are seeking a dynamic individual who can enhance our presence at major industry events, craft compelling narratives, and position our executives as leading voices on social impact.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Brand and Communications, you will lead efforts to showcase our campaigns and initiatives on global stages such as Davos, Cannes, and Advertising Week. Additionally, you will foster collaboration within the department and across the organization to ensure brand narrative consistency at all touchpoints.

This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful social impact through strategic communications and thought leadership. It is essential in advancing the Ad Council's mission and offers the chance to work on nationally recognized campaigns.

Contract details:

This is a contract employee role. This means that, while the position is at all times one of “at will employment”, the Ad Council anticipates at present that the employment length would be approximately 6 months with the possibility to extend the contract.

Depending on experience, the compensation for this position is $8,000 – $9,000 monthly, paid semi-monthly. Contract employees will be eligible to participate in limited benefits and paid time off.

While this position is remote and on a contract basis, due to the nature of the role, we are prioritizing applicants who live within close proximity to NYC.

What you’ll do:

Thought leadership:

Identify and research opportunities for Ad Council leadership to participate in key industry speaking engagements, ensuring our message reaches relevant audiences worldwide.

Develop and refine talking points, presentations, and materials for brand panels and conferences, tailoring messages that resonate with each event's focus and audience.

Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to align thought leadership activities with broader strategic goals, enhancing the Ad Council's visibility and impact.

Contribute to the strategy and execution of content across multiple platforms, including case studies, blog posts, and social media, to communicate the Ad Council's mission and success stories.

Lead ad hoc thought leadership projects through Ad Council Research Institute.

Stay abreast of industry trends, innovations and events, helping to brief Ad Council senior executives on thought leadership pieces and identifying opportunities for the Ad Council voice to surface in relevant news of the day.

Event programming

:

Work closely with our events team on all Ad Council-owned events including our annual Public Service Award Dinner.

Support and collaborate on partner-owned events promoting the Ad Council brand.

Provide in-person support for priority speaking engagements, as needed.

Team management & development

:

Support the senior director in leading a dedicated team, fostering an environment of creativity, growth, and innovation.

Content:

Write and edit for our blog, and serve as a resource for other brand content needs.

What you’ll bring:

7+ years in journalism, corporate communications, or a similar field, with a proven track record of creating impactful, written communications.

Demonstrated experience in managing thought leadership initiatives, including speaker placements, content creation for high-profile events, and executive messaging.

Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills, capable of crafting messages that engage and inspire a variety of audiences.

Strong organizational and project management abilities, comfortable working under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Collaborative mindset, adept at working across teams and departments to achieve common goals.

Passion for social change and an understanding of the role of strategic communications in driving public awareness and action.
