Description

The Studio X team is seeking a highly skilled UX Designer with experience designing for AI experiences. They’ll be a hands-on leader, leveraging the latest technology and their expertise to establish delightful and immersive AI-powered experiences. They will raise the bar on UX Design as a discipline and help scale design consistency across AWS Marketing. They will guide individuals and teams through the design and research process, establish guardrails and foundations when designing for AI, highlight best practices, and advocate for ethical AI practices.

Key job responsibilities

Experience or knowledge of designing user interfaces and interactions for AI-powered systems, such as natural language and multimodal interfaces, recommendation engines, or generative AI tools.

Familiarity with design principles and best practices for AI-powered experiences, such as transparent communication of AI capabilities, managing user expectations, and designing for trust and ethical AI.

Experience with conversational /natural language based AI (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Amazon Q, or similar) and/or generative AI (Adobe Firefly, Dall-e, Midjourney, Canva, or similar) tools.

Ability to collaborate with AI/ML engineers, data scientists, and other technical teams to understand the capabilities and limitations of AI systems and translate them into effective user experiences.

Expertise in designing for multi-modal interactions, combining various input modalities (e.g., voice, text, gestures, images, documents) and output modalities (e.g., visuals, audio, haptics) in AI-powered experiences.

Experience with designing adaptive or personalized user experiences, leveraging AI and standard CMS engines to tailor content, interactions, or recommendations based on user behavior or context.

Excellent written and verbal communication, and ability to present complex concepts and ideas.

Team player capable of collaborating with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and digital marketers to create high-quality deliverables.

Collaborative designer capable of leading and actively participating in creative critiques, design discussions, and contributing documentation of best practices.

Show the ability to translate complex business, technology, and customer requirements into practical plans that drive measurable results.

Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate a bias for action with proactive communication in a fast-paced, challenging, and often ambiguous environment.

A day in the life

Marketing CX sets the foundation for digital experiences and content—focusing on the performance of content, experiences created by other teams, and the success of teams leveraging digital channels to engage their customers. It ingests research, data, and customer objectives for product, partner, brand, growth marketing, demand generation, localization, and other AWS stakeholder organizations, and adapts them for the digital space. It creates mechanisms that improve stakeholders' ability to create optimal customer content and delightful experiences. Studio X is the creative engine within Marketing CX. A diverse team of researchers, designers, copywriters, and information architects, they generate ideas, creative solutions and architectures that ultimately bring the AWS Brand to digital life.

Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including Product and Program Managers, Designers, Researchers, Engineers, Digital Marketers, and Digital Strategists.

Participate in group creative critiques with cross-functional roles.

Present design concepts to key stakeholders and leadership.

Design discovery—analysis of research insights, requirements gathering, and defining customer needs.

Create design artifacts—user stories, user journeys, personas, and user flows.

Brainstorm, sketch, and design website experiences and UI design patterns for all devices

Design for research/testing including interactive prototypes, animatics, and/or HTML/CSS prototypes.

Create Engineering-ready design specs including device-break point, micro-animations, soft/hard guardrails, and design system documentation.

Contribute to the expansion of a central design system with pattern, interaction and motion models.

About the team

Studio X is a multi-disciplinary group of creatives, crafting end-to-end and cross-channel customer experiences. The team is a collaborative group of Visual and UX Designers, Researchers, Copywriters, and Information Architects. The team is a center for design excellence, driving consistency, AWS Brand advocacy, and developing a scalable design system for digital marketing experiences. The team’s core talent spans the US coasts from Seattle to New York, and partners closely with global teams.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, interactive design, or equivalent

5+ years of delivering design solutions as a UX designer or interaction designer experience

Knowledge of usability principles and techniques

Knowledge of and proficiency in a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, and InDesign

Experience designing and prototyping with tools such as Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, InVision, or similar

Experience acquiring user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, performing user research) and creating personas and journey maps

Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs

Have an available online portfolio

Demonstrated expertise in designing for AI and Generative AI experiences, and portfolio examples of AI powered interface design, including conversational and predictive AI experiences

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of mass-market consumer web / mobile products experience

Experience prototyping (HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, CSS, Flash or Flash Catalyst, or Axure)

Experience designing micro-animations, Lottie animation, and/or motion designs

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $106,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $184,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
