*The University of Maryland Marlene & Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior OR Lead Media & Public Relations Specialist.*The University of Maryland Marlene & Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC), one of the nation’s leading cancer centers, seeks a dynamic, energetic communications and marketing professional to manage a full range of activities that communicate the Center’s research, clinical, and educational leadership programs. The selected candidate will utilize multiple platforms, including media relations, social and digital media, and promotional activities to reach targeted external and internal audiences. The individual will reside at the UMGCCC and work in coordination with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the University of Maryland Medical Center./The candidate’s title will be determined based on their education and experience./

Senior Specialist-Primary Duties

* Overall coordination and management of all University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) social media content in concert with the University (UMB), the School of Medicine (SOM), and the Medical System (UMMS) with the goal of increasing UMGCCC frequency and presence in local, national, international and professional social media. * Sustained and ongoing coordination of UMGCCC Medical System and SOM-based websites ensuring they are coordinated, current, and consistently deliver an up-to-date, unified message that is useful to patients, researchers, the profession, and the general public. * Work closely with UMB, UMMS and SOM PR/marketing staff to further enhance the patient-facing, research and community outreach activities of UMGCCC. * Interact with local and national media, professional organizations and other key constituencies to raise the awareness, stature and reach of UMGCCC via media, printed materials, and electronic media. * Work closely with UMGCCC Development staff to ensure consistent messaging that will generate opportunities to bolster the reputation of UMGCCC and further, innovative fund-raising efforts. Work with UMGCCC Development staff to produce and stage new events featuring UMGCCC capabilities that will further support the faculty, the organization and our patients. * Increase the dissemination of outward facing UMGCCC research accomplishments, community outreach and research news, work with hospital to increase outward facing patient information. * Support and raise awareness of UMGCCC community outreach and engagement events. Work directly with COE staff and community health ambassadors. * Work with UMMS and UMB to develop and track metrics that demonstrate the effectiveness and reach of UMGCCC social media presence. * Work directly with UMGCCC faculty and staff to identify and publicize newsworthy events, medical and scientific findings, clinical discoveries and public interest stories. * Work with UMGCCC administrative staff to support & publicize Frontiers in Oncology, UMGCCC Grand Rounds, seminars, talks, symposia, site visits and other events. * Create public informational materials to target audiences for UMGCCC communications, including multimedia content for use on the web and social media sites. * Manage production and distribution of public informational materials to a target audience, including the use of social- and multi-media. Researches, writes, edits, and summarizes tributes information materials to print, broadcast, and on-line media outlets. * Maintains printed inventory, databases, and digital archives. * Researches, writes, edits, and summarizes tributes information materials to print, broadcast, and on-line media outlets. Maintains printed inventory, databases, and digital archives. * Contribute to the development and implementation of media relations and daily operations strategies. * Identify client needs and communication strategies to develop project specifications. * Define desired outcomes and deadlines. Ensure operational effectiveness within the media relations function to ensure projects specifications and defined outcomes are met. * React to/and interact with media representatives to develop and maintain relationships, pitch university programs and activities, and respond to media inquiries. * Develop, manage, and implement institutional marketing and promotional activities related to building the national and international reputation of the UMGCCC. * Performs other duties as assigned.

Lead Specialist-Primary Duties

* Work closely with project leads and be responsible for contributing to the design, coordination, and implementation of a communication strategy for the department; and the design and implementation of project-related communications * Manage the design, production, and distribution of public information materials for target audiences; this will include preparing briefing /background materials as well as brochures and fact sheets. * Manage proactive and reactive media relations to secure optimal positive media coverage; manage contracted media support as needed. Provide objectives of communications and develop talking points and technical Q&A for use by project team(s). * Assist in the development and implementation of media outreach strategies that advance the mission and priorities of the department. Confer with senior leadership of the department to plan public relations strategy and objectives for the short and mid-term future. Liaise on project information for inclusion in organizational publications. * Serve as representative of the department in stakeholder meetings. Contribute to crisis communications planning and coordinate the department's response in communications crises should they arise with project team. * Performs other duties as assigned.

Senior Specialist

*Education:*Bachelor's degree preferably in English, journalism, or communications. *Experience:*Three (3) years of related communications, marketing, media, public or client relations experience. *Other:*Clery act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements.

Hiring Range for the/Senior Specialist/:

$67,000 - $80,000, commensurate with education and experience.

Hiring Range for the/Lead Specialist/:
