Functional Responsibility: Design and creation of

virtual solid models of new products, modifications and upgrades to existing

designs, from abstract concepts to full assembly. Interface as necessary

with engineering lead to determine design requirements, specifications and

schedules. Design for manufacturability, reliability and maintainability

applying Mil-Spec, FAA and best commercial practices. Create virtual

solid models for individual components, systems and assemblies. Apply

tolerance stack-up analysis, mass properties, etc., on component assemblies to

ensure proper fit and function. Utilize and instruct industry standard

manufacturing processes as a design requirement. Create, review and

update drawings (AutoCAD, DraftSight or equivalent) and maintain configuration

control of design and manufacturing documentation (SolidWorks PDM) as necessary

for: manufacturing, assembly and installation, engineering analysis and product

installations. Ability to make a proper interpretation of design specifications

and drawings and determine the design details, such as standard component

selection, thread and tolerance specifications, etc. Create or revise

SolidWorks CAD models, drawings, BOM’s, and other engineering documentation as

required. Coordinate and manage design and drawing reviews, prototype

builds and verification testing and documentation. Participate on

multi-disciplinary, integrated project teams, representing the Design Group for

team activities and decisions. Assist with proposal development

preparation when requested. Ability to educate lower level designers on

manufacturability, reliability and maintainability and fit and function for

manufacturing and assembly. Track and report progress on projects to

management. Ensure all work is done in compliance with Quality

Requirements, ISO 9001/AS9100 standards, company policies, procedures, goals

and objectives.

Education/Experience Qualifications: Associates

degree from a college or university accredited by an accrediting body

recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. A minimum of ten (10)

years’ progressive and current experience with SolidWorks modeling

software. May substitute certification from a technical institution in a

directly applicable field or High School diploma with additional four (4) years

directly related work experience for Education requirement. Must be able

to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance.

Leadership & Management: Design Specialist III is a team leader position and may be responsible for the activities of lower level designers assigned to specific programs. Ensuring that all assigned designers have the skills and resources to accomplish assigned tasks and reports progress to management team. This individual will work with management to actively mentor less skilled personnel to identify weaknesses, expand their technical capabilities and to support their career progression.
