This co-op is open to students at William Peace University. Students will be eligible for course credit for completing 120 hours of work for this co-op.

The Software Engineer co-op is an essential part of BD’s Digital Engineering (DE) team and will have the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of BD’s next generation medical products and enhance the current product portfolio. The Software Engineer co-op will use their skills to develop virtual reality (VR) and web applications, software tools, and customized toolkits for key projects with impact across BD. We are excited to add a highly motivated, self-directed individual that can adapt quickly and work within a dynamic environment.

BD Research & Development co-ops provide the student with an opportunity to partner with peers, senior personnel, and supervisors who provide informal mentoring and coaching. Students will have the opportunity to be exposed to our process of designing and developing technologies and products related to medical and/or interventional devices, in vitro diagnostics, and life science research for different global markets. Students may work with cross-functional or interdisciplinary teams and may have multiple internal partners and customers.

The student will have the opportunity to develop technical expertise, develop a professional network, learn how to work in an engineering environment, and deliver presentations showcasing their work. The co-op program is a great opportunity to gain exposure to a Fortune 500 biotechnology and medical device company and to BD’s culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create high-quality and engaging VR and immersive experiences related to training, sales and marketing, product design, and general healthcare education
• Design and develop new applications that explore untapped areas of value to the company
• Support software development efforts, taking on aspects that will move projects forward using in-house development. Identify, diagnose, and document bugs during the development process
• Interact with cross-functional teams across the company including, but not limited to, marketing, sales, clinical, R&D, UI/UX, and manufacturing
• Work independently to identify actions needed to complete assignments and demonstrate a strong drive for results

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a student at William Peace University pursuing a degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or a related engineering field.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without limitations and require no sponsorship for visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B status)
• Knowledge of software development (C#, Javascript)
• Experience with game engine concepts such as scripting, lighting, materials, meshes, shaders, etc.
• Proficiency in Microsoft suite of software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
• Available to work an average of 10 hours per week for the duration of the co-op period
• Abie to work successfully in team and individual situations
• Eagerness to continue expanding current skillset and work on a broad range of challenging software engineering problems
• Experience with 3D modelling, CAD tools, and UI/UX design is a plus
