for our school division plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of teacher and student engagement and learning. As a seasoned

lead UX Designer

with experience in discovery activities, this individual will drive the overarching design strategy for the teacher and student experience, establishing concepts through a user-centric methodology that aligns with our educational mission.

Responsible for conceptualizing and designing the experiences in collaboration with Design Strategy leaders, Product Management, and other cross-functional stakeholders, the UX Lead will employ a holistic understanding of user needs and behaviors.This role involves navigating the intricacies of our platform, products, data, and content, utilizing design thinking to craft innovative solutions for the New Literacy product, and establishing future patterns for existing and future products on the School platforms.

Starting with discovery and ideation to implementation, the lead UX Designer will facilitate teams through the entire process, ensuring a seamless and compelling user journey. Collaboration with Product, Academic Design, Instructional Design, Research, and Engineering Leads, a commitment to accessibility, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of design excellence are integral components of this role, making it a unique opportunity to influence the landscape of digital education.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. It requires up to 10% occasional travel for the year. Preference will be given to applicants within the Columbus, New York or Chicago area.

What You’ll Do

Be a change agent evangelizing and bringing awareness to human-centered methodologies and practices across the company, supporting cross-functional product teams at different stages of understanding

Set an example of craft and collaboration; someone other designers seek out and learn from. You guide work for a significant program area, identify patterns across products, and handle complex projects with overlapping organizational lines

Demonstrate an understanding of the broader objectives and business goals

Have an aptitude for translating business objectives into actionable design decisions

Notice dependencies between efforts and escalate to resolve them

Present ideas and concepts to other designers and product managers, and mentor other designers to do the same

Coach and mentor designers on the process, upskilling the team as a whole

Help create and influence feedback across teams

Coach designers on stakeholder management, especially with senior leaders

Partner with research to define questions to ask and problems to explore

Solve complex design problems and drive multiple efforts simultaneously

Approach each project with consideration for the larger School platform experience and business model

Deeply understand how products connect beyond your own program area, and be mindful of touchpoints in the overall user journey across the School platform.

In collaboration with the UX Research team, dive into existing user research, metrics and balance with intuition and sensibility and translate user needs into tangible experiences for our solutions

What We Value/What You'll Need

A Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Visual Communication, Digital Design, Product Design, Human Centered Design, or related field required. MFA or advanced degree a required. (A Masters degree is preferred)

5+ years' work experience in product development, user experience design, product design, creative, or marketing industries.

Knowledge of software usability principles and current trends and advances in interface design.

Product development experience in Ed Tech is a plus.

Demonstrated success in leading design efforts across multiple products to achieve a central solution.

Extensive experience creating low and high-fidelity journey maps, workflows, sketches, and design documentation.

Strong communication, presentation, and analytical skills.

Advanced knowledge of UX wireframe, visual design, and prototyping software (e.g. Axure, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator); familiar with Snagit and Visio.

In-depth understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript

Deep understanding of responsive design approaches

High-level understanding of accessibility guidelines and designing for optimal accessibility

Demonstrated experience working in an Agile environment.

Understand a target audience's needs and other motivating factors and translate them into concepts for compelling interactions and experiences.

The pay range for this position is between $70,000 - $115,000 annually, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
