Part Time Media Specialist at Heritage Elementary

Monday - Friday 8:25AM - 12:10PM

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direct supervision of the Building Principal, to teach media literacy skills and maintain the library for all Heritage students, grades 4-5, and staff; to assist students and staff in accessing educational materials, learning resources, technology and online educational programming.

1-3 years serving as a Media Specialist in an elementary school.Relevant training and expertise in library media technology and organization.Prior training in diversity, equity and inclusion.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Creates a welcoming environment for students, staff and guests in the Media Center.Instruct students in the areas of literature & authors, technology and its application, and acquiring information both from books and the internet.Assists students in locating instructional materials, and in developing knowledge, skill and abilities to gain independence and fully utilize the media center materials and resources.Maintains media materials and communicates with families about overdue materials.Maintains the media center webpage as a resource or families, students and staff.Assists in maintaining the circulation desk operations, circulation files, checking out resources, including technology.Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities.Supervision of students who utilize the media center to access online learning, including attendance and maintaining weekly two-way communication.Operate educational technology as needed, act as a resource for staff in operating educational technology equipment.Communicates to students/staff regarding educational materials available in the media center.Serves as a reference guide for students.Arranges book displays, exhibits and other items to provide an appropriate learning resource environment and maximize students' interest in reading and learning.Curates the selection of media center materials and resources, and in weeding out old outdated materials and books, manage collection to include materials that expose students to materials culturally rich and diverse backgroundsNOTE:

While the basic functions of this position are the same for the various levels of school media center personnel, each successively higher level requires greater responsibility, ability to supervise and run the media center's operations, ability to lead and train others, a higher degree of education or training, greater computer skills, more related experience, and/or other attributes that distinguish it from any lower level(s).

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.
