Job Summary

Are you interested in helping to design web applications that showcase some of the best art in the world? Getty Digital is looking for a Senior User Experience Designer to join our team.

We're looking for an experienced designer who enjoys finding the balance between meeting user needs and achieving our institution's priorities. Someone in this role will partner with software engineering teams and colleagues in the Communications department to design the look and feel of digital initiatives across the Getty, along with improving existing products. You will research, design, test, and help implement experiences that share Getty's resources and information with the larger world.

This work includes the main Getty.edu website, museum collections, research archives, digital publications, and other web-based applications. Our ideal candidate loves brainstorming, problem solving, and isn't afraid of ambiguity. You're an experienced, detail-oriented, and systems-thinking designer who loves beautiful and frictionless interfaces and flows. You enjoy collaboration and can articulate a clear design vision as we extend our atomic design system to new applications and use cases. You're comfortable turning requirements into wireframes, and then working with engineers to create designs that make up a cohesive and user-friendly application.The Getty is among the most prestigious cultural heritage organizations in the world, dedicated to furthering the study of the history of art. Major Job Responsibilities

Take initiative to deliver designs for broadly scoped projects on Getty's public-facing digital platformCollaborate with a team of UX designers and product managers to define design thinking and strategyTackle complex problems under little to no supervision and use storytelling to communicate solutions across the team and to stakeholdersLeverage an existing design framework but also bring your experience to mature our design language and atomic design libraryWork with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to define requirements for new applications and add new features to existing onesDesign, test, and improve interfaces for multiple devices/platforms at stages of the design lifecycle, including wireframes, visual design, and prototypesCollaborate with cross-functional teams to articulate design rationale, present strategic solutions, and use consensus-building strategies to arrive at a path forwardIntegrate stakeholder and user feedback into design deliverables, such as concepts, wireframes, and prototypesMaintain the visual brand identity of the organization across all applicationsEstablish and help to document best practices and policies that further UX and digital design across the organizationRepresent Getty within the larger field through presentations, papers, and networking events

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree5 years of experience or combination of education and relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

An interest in the work of cultural heritage and the artsA proven track record of designing high-quality digital products that demonstrate the depth of your design leadership, illustrated in a portfolio or case studies.Able to find solutions to complex problems and communicate them effectively to both technical and broader stakeholder audiencesComfort in presenting both your own and your team's work, managing discussions and design reviews, and communicating to stakeholders and executivesHighly organized with meticulous attention to detail (e.g writing documentation to explain your design choices)Able to give and solicit feedback from designers and the broader team in order to continually raise our bar for quality and learn from each otherExperience in designing, conducting, and interpreting user research and testingExperience building and shipping applications or software that are large or ambiguous in scope and encompass an end-to-end experienceExperience in product design, interface design, and using a component library and designing reusable componentsStrong visual design experience, with proficiency in typography, responsive UI, color, layout, iconography, and understanding how these elements impact product function.Full command of digital design tools, including Figma and atomic design systems.A working knowledge of modern JavaScript practices and CSS, and how design, UX, and software work in partnershipA deep knowledge of web accessibility, human-centered and universal design principles, and WCAG 2.1Ability and desire to collaborate with developers, project managers, and subject matter experts to ensure solutions are implementable and meet business and user needsTact, diplomacy, and ability to work with a wide variety of audiences that amplify our team cultureAble to be on-site in Los Angeles at least one day a week
