Ops Die Designer/Drafter

Key role responsibilities

Use Solidworks 3D and AutoCAD 2D to develop die layouts, flat blanks, strip layouts for the ECN Press Room.

Work with Tool Room personnel to help maintain and improve existing progressive dies.

Work with outside tooling suppliers to ensure compliance with CADDY Die Specifications.

Reverse engineer and create drawings for existing tooling.

Working with NPD and AE personnel, design, develop, and manufacture new tooling and fixtures needed for prototypes and new part fabrication.

Work with NPD, AE, and Tool Room personnel to provide feedback on manufacturability of concepts and lead time estimates.

Order raw materials and consumables for tooling and fixtures.

Understand and effectively applies standard drafting practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Proven experience and knowledge in progressive die design and strip layout.

Extensive knowledge of drafting standards and metal stamping processes.

Demonstrated proficiency with Solidworks 3D modeling software. Limited use of AutoCAD 2D

Familiarity with MS Office suite (Excel, Word), general computer proficiency.

Ability to read/interpret drawings

Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships across functional areas

Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business circumstances/priorities

Ability to thrive in a constantly changing business environment

Good communication skills

qualifications and experience

High school diploma or G.E.D required, Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.

Journeyman Tool & Die (preferred) with progressive stamping die experience, knowledge repairing, trouble-shooting existing dies, and new die builds for spring steel, pre galvanized, stainless and plain mild steel materials ranging from 0.025” - 0.375” thick

Strong mechanical aptitude with good problem-solving skills

Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication – progressive die tooling experience required

Ideal candidate will have knowledge of presses used for progressive die stamping

Reporting to the Tool Room Manager, this position will develop die layouts, flat blanks, strip layouts and any other information necessary to support CADDY New Product Development (NPD), Application Engineering (AE), and existing manufacturing in the nVent CADDY ECN Press Room. This will be in support of new tooling builds and will also include working with Tool Room personnel to help maintain and improve our fleet of over 500 existing progressive dies for the CADDY brand of fasteners, and work effectively with outside tooling suppliers.
