JOB OVERVIEWJob Description Summary:The Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) develops and implements strategy and tactics for showcasing and raising the visibility of the university's experts, initiatives, and accomplishments. It manages media inquiries and interviews with senior university leadership, provides internal communications expertise, and produces print and online publications to showcase the university.

The Office of Communications and Marketing is currently seeking a

Manager of Communications, Provost Office Institutes.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, Provost and Provost Office, the

Manager of Communications, Provost Office Institutes

has an exciting opportunity to lead communications for three dynamic and high-impact academic institutes at the George Washington University: The Alliance for a Sustainable Future, the Global Food Institute, and the Institute for Racial, Ethnic, and Socioeconomic Equity (Equity Institute).

In close partnership with institute leadership, and in collaboration with two full-time communications staff members, which this position oversees, the

Manager of Communications, Provost Office Institutes

serves as a strategic communications and marketing leader who supports the mission and goals of the institutes by developing communications and marketing plans and content for internal and external audiences. The manager will become the point person for one of the institutes while leading the team in supporting all institutes more broadly.

Responsibilities for this position include:Working closely with institute leadership and collaborating with communications and marketing partners to develop comprehensive communications and marketing plans and collateral tailored to the needs and objectives of each institute.Researching, writing, editing, and distributing communications (e.g., website content, articles, newsletters, emails, correspondence, one-pagers, social media) to internal and external audiences in support of strategic objectives and furthering the institutes' mission.Collaborating with cross-functional teams (including editorial, social media, multimedia, web, media relations, research communications, internal communications, and marketing) that bring together expertise across the Office of Communications and Marketing to support the needs of the institutes.Promoting research or other work from affiliated faculty of the institutes.Managing communications for institute leadership (talking points, interview requests, briefing materials).Supporting planning, logistics, and promotion for convenings and events.Monitoring news and current events related to institutes' subject matter.Managing two full-time communications staff members who also support the institutes.Providing direction to student communications interns.

In addition, this position serves as a key partner to colleagues on various communications and marketing teams and in particular works closely with the communications staff lead supporting the Provost's Office.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:Preferred Qualifications:Commitment to the work of the institutes and/or prior communications experience in areas in which the institutes are focused (sustainability and climate change, food, and equity).Demonstrated experience leading communications strategy, planning, and execution for academic institutes and leaders and/or within higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven institutions. Ability to quickly synthesize complex information and juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Experience managing full-time staff.Hiring Range$75,044.98 - $130,658.52
