How you'll make an impact:

The Senior Media Design Engineer is responsible for detailed broadcast system level design of a wide range of systems within SiriusXM's broadcast environments. This position will work with Network Engineering and Infrastructure teams to design projects that will advance SiriusXM operational systems into the next generation of IT centric broadcast systems, implementing key modernized technology architectures and concepts that will supply the highest level of quality and reliability to subscribers. The Senior Media Design Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting and refining design issues and implementing required changes to meet the requirements of assigned projects and support operational excellence as well as contribute to short and long-term strategic planning of broadcast technology.

What you'll do:
  • Design, install and deliver complex broadcast systems within deadlines
  • Translate requirements into conceptual and detailed designs and engineering solutions for broadcast systems that align with the company's technology goals
  • Interface with Vendors and System Integrators - Communicating project expectations clearly and concisely to allow outside entities to deliver their results in a timely fashion
  • Interface with IT and Broadcast IT teams to design and implement:
    • Audio over IP (AoIP) workflows
    • Software Defined Network (SDN)
    • Virtualized environments
  • Study product design and customer requirements performance standards to define project specifications
  • Review industry trends and new product lines to determine validity to current and future system design
  • Write and deliver required technical documentation prior to system hand off to stakeholders
  • Conduct and document tests assuring safe and satisfactory product performance
  • Lead multiple projects in various phases of development and attend related vendor meetings to track development path inclusive of:
    • Scheduling - Develop, hold to or communicate slips in scheduling in advance of deadlines
    • Budget - Understand actions that impact budget and communicate as soon as these are known


What you'll need:
  • Five (5) years of experience as a design engineer, bringing projects from design to production, ideally in a broadcast field or similar 24/7 customer facing enterprise
  • Three (3) years of experience in broadcast and Media engineering or a related field
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science, IT systems, and/or project management or equivalent relevant experience
  • Working experience or knowledge of the following infrastructure areas of interest:
    • Compute
    • Storage
    • VMWare
    • Operating Systems - Windows, Linux (various flavors)
    • Cloud Based Workflows
    • API's
    • Security
  • Working experience or knowledge of Broadcast Media systems such as:
    • Scheduling Software
    • Automation Systems
    • Playout Systems
    • Record Systems
    • Audio Routing, Control and Content Origination
    • Video Routing
    • Signal Processing
    • Media Asset Management
    • Familiarity with broadcast standards, such as SMPTE, AES, and MADI
  • Experience working with cross functional teams and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Project Management practices and standards, certification, or formal training in project management processes such as Six Sigma, CAPM, PMP or Agile
  • Project Management Skills including vendor interaction, preparation of documents for stakeholder acceptance and training
  • Ability to lead multiple projects and reporting status to management for risk analysis
  • Must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Motivated to keep pace with rapidly evolving broadcast and IT technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Systems documentation and operational procedures
  • Ability to multi-task, shift priorities, and be willing to adapt or improve
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • General proficiency and working knowledge in all areas of media engineering
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues
  • Availability to travel for assignments at remote company locations
  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S


At SiriusXM, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your background and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. We expect the base salary for this position to be in the range of $103,300 to $147,820 and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives. We encourage all interested candidates to apply
