Description

The Publication Designer conceives of the look and produces all pages for the National Apartment Association's (NAA) monthly flagship publication, units Magazine. In addition, they will also have responsibility for producing imposition, pre-flighting and placing all advertising, and will work closely with the printer to ensure timely and accurate issue production, including creation and submission of all print and mail files. They will assist in the design process of collateral NAA marketing materials as time permits.

The ideal candidate will be forthcoming about their ideas and opinions, be highly collaborative and member-oriented.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Read content, select accompanying art and create layouts that best illustrate the text.Represent the mission and professionalism of NAA and work in accordance with units production schedule.Create and submit print-ready electronic PDF files to the printer. Review and amend, as necessary.Troubleshoot any technical difficulties presented by text, images, advertising elements or other elements during the print production process.Assign photo shoots and direct photographer for magazine content as required.Develop the imposition for each issue that fulfills the requirements of both sales and editorial staff.Coordinate with Business Development team to troubleshoot advertising production issues.Contribute to the overall effective operation of NAA through positive participation in support of shared goals of the NAA Communications Department and other staff teams as assigned.Perform additional graphic design assignments as needed and when time permits.Coordinate such efforts with Marketing staff.COMPETENCIES:

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or graphic designFour years of experience in producing a monthly print publication.Advanced understanding of Adobe Creative Suite.Familiar with INSITE Prepress Portal System.Proficient with desktop publishing software, including Microsoft Office, in a MAC operating system environment.Strong proofreading skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.Highly organized and able to work efficiently on multiple projects to meet tight deadlines. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills a must.Critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to think creatively and produce new ideas.PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Strong knowledge of design principles, color production and printing methods.Skills in editorial design, illustration and photographyProject management skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift up to 20 pounds. Little to no travel is expected for this position. If any, travel would be local during the business day.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
